Countless razors have been saved or are now being taken care of by all the fine gentlemen here!
Another thing to consider is how many have been destroyed. An appalling figure, should it be known.
How many have found good homes
not nearly enough,,,,,,,,,,,:(
I too have had a few casualties but the saves to death ratio is quite high. Some of them were not saved quite as much as they had a little more life breathed into them and some were near disaster and pulled back. I like to think that I help the razor population flourish.
One.......... Two............ Many ! .................. :)
i have only saved 26. 14 I have in rotation, 12 I have given away or sold, and at the moment only have three projects. In the process I have purchased two that were too far gone, sold two I wish I kept, and completely destroyed 1.
Something else to ponder is that there is a much larger community of straight razor users/restorers that are not members here. We only represent a portion of what's truly out there. I have run into many people that use a straight, hone, and restore that are not on any forums. Blasphemy I know but when you figure this, it doubles or triples (or more) the number originally pondered.
Between a few of my acquaintances there are something over 5000 renewed; and among others at least 2000 that need work.
I didn't count my few.

Doing our share of the work here in France.
I must be above 40, but the amount is here again is thousands :)
We even have a few professionals who can do an absolute stunning job when marvels get out of their slumber.
Sadly though, we can't save all. Many people deem them too dangerous and put them in the trash, and we have our fair share of people who traditionally eat hedgehogs and use straigths to shave them. It is well known here that you have to get up early before they take them all...
That's not counting those destroy by cell rot, broken blades, and razors used for other purposes (scratching paint for example)
50+
Getting a rusty cracked blade shaving gives me the most satisfaction.
Knowing that it will not corrode into oblivion... priceless.
Thanks for all the help and how-to information.
Going out to find more razors.
Cheers.
I'm happy to re-home and save any Boker that anyone feels the need to be rid of!! :tu
Every razor I have saved I have also baptized in lather in the name of the boker, the kropp, and the honeless ghost, amen.
Restorations are one part of it. Taking good care of razors that would have otherwise been neglected is another. But I think the more impressive feat is the work to preserve knowledge and learn new things in order to preserve and enhance straight razor shaving in general. I find the overall impact of this niche hobby quite impressive.
The bokher, The Dovo, and The holly Wacker
I'd wish I was.Quote:
Surely you jest?
The hedgehogs get a hot lather shave before dinner? Dang you folk are fancy.
But no, in reality it's nothing fancy, said people are part of nomadic populations, romani mainly. They are used to live poorly, and the tradition of eating edgehog started when food was scarce during WWII, and stayed as an important cultural element.
As the european edgehog is a protected species, this has lead to many arrests and sentences, and contributes to the ill fame of the overall population (they are currently so hated that there start to be segregation in the transports), while swimming pool owners and night drivers are the main cause of death.
Sigh. Feel the need to lighten the mood after that.
Alright : three razors which are the closest thing I have to family razors were used by my fiancee's grandfather to castrate pigs. THEY WILL BE SAVED AND RESTORE THEIR HONOR AT PROTECTING MALE ATTRIBUTES (well, in that case, their beard...)
Well, good news is, such people hunt for "penny razors".
That does not protect from a very good blade to be sold (eg Nogent or a large W&B), but at least MOP, tortoise, ivory, sculpted scales, etc. are quite a protected hunt :)
Marvels are still to be found as they were over the last year at least in France, in high end shops :)
The common things may go and die, the marvels are still to come !
I have been a treasure hunter for years now, when treasures need to appear, they will :D
Sometimes it makes me wonder if there is such thing as fate...

Im asshamed to confest that , i never use or buy a new razor like Dovo or Tiers Isard . I have few that was a brand new - NOS / new old stock / from 20 years , but never get a brand new , exept the GD but they didnt count , as they dont play in the shaving razors , league .
I only use saved razors .
The old they are - the better they are .
I have become the same way I don't have a new one just ones I have fixed myself.
