Ok so I am looking at buying a barber's pet
My main questions are....
are these generally good shavers?
Do they hold an edge well?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry. Never seen one, or shaved with one.
Looks like a nice blade.
Where was it made?
I like the scales, are theye wood?, hard for me to tell.
They're almost identical to a set of scales i made.

I have a little 4/8 Barbers Pet that's an excellent shaver. Mine was sold through Simmon's Hardware and made in Germany. Hone it up and enjoy.
I had a Simmons hardware one as well, but mine had a curve in the spine that made it difficult to hone and strop so I got rid of it. Yours looks like it's in good shape, is it an eBay sale?
If so you might want to take a look at the eBay members list on this forum to see if it's a known razor dealer.
@Outback that looks fantastic the scales are half the reason I wanted the razor at first ...
@Ernie no this is from Larry andro at whipped dog
Alright
I have decided to go ahead and buy the razor the price was good and I like the way it looks ... If it shaves as well as everyone says (found a few other old posts about the brand as well) then I will have a great razor very soon and it's shave ready XD so that's a plus
Rock on.
Cant wait to hear how it shaves.
I'll have to keep an eye open for one.[emoji106]
So I can't find it anywhere ... What would you call the shape of these scales??
I don't really know. Never seen them till now. Except the pair I made. That freaked me out when I seen that one. Thought someone stole mine. [emoji53] [emoji26] [emoji23]
Made me look twice.
Haha yah I have looked everywhere on Google images and so on.....and I have found literally 2 pics of these type of scales.....and none had a name for it ....both were very high end scales .....

Figures, thought i came up with an original.
But, They are custom made. [emoji6]
@BobH your the man !!
@Outback .... Hey even Google them by name they only show a hand full of pics....
Yah. Your the man Bob
Thanks
It is a reasonably common shape, especially on larger razors, if you didn't make them that shape you would either end up with a very skinny looking scale or a massive chunky scale.
I can't make out the stamp but I'd bet it says No 421.
If so, the razor was made by CF Ern & I would be surprised if it was less than exceptional to shave with.
If it is made by Ern like onimaru55 says, then it's a great find.
Ok well I do have a pic I can zoom in on......it says No. 321 any info on that?
Yah I can't find anything about a No. 321 barber's pet....
Ok so sort of a repost of my other post but I was wondering if anyone had some info on this ....
I'm buying a No. 321 barber's pet and can't find anything about it....
Any help would be great.
The Barbers Pet razor line belongs to Simmons Hardware, german made high quality.

What's the diffrence in the No. 421 vs No. 321?
I think you are going to find very little info on what numbers on SRs mean. In a lot of cases you would be lucky to even find out who the maker actually was, especially in the case of store brand razors unless the maker also marked it. There are not many detailed company records left.
Bob
Thanks Bob was just hoping to find someone that knew something about it....just have not seen anything about that particular stamp
Guidry - Here is a photo of my Barbers Pet 421. If you know what your #321 looks like, you can compare the two for differences and similarities. Sometimes it's as simple as one being a round point and the other being a square point. Good luck..

Sometimes it can also be the blade width. I have a Barber's Pet around here somewhere. I need to find it to see what it looks like.
Just a thought........

The blades look similar. Just an observation, but the brown scales look like they are not original.
May be a difference in grind. Full hollow versus half follow, or extra hollow.
Don't know but my 321 is a great razor. I have several Simmons razors and all are excellent in my opinion.
With stuff like that it usually boils down to guess work as you have been getting. That is helpful but far from concrete. Believe it or not there is not a lot of proven detailed information on most SRs as they were a mass produced item, not even serial numbered. Sometimes things just are.
Bob
Thanks BobH
Yah I knew it was a long shot but sometimes you guys suprise me with the info you manage to pull out of the air when all of my ssearching finds nuthing lol
I would guess the scales are not original myself .... Not that I care .... The scales are wood and in good repair so good enough for me
