You'd need something. The chances of getting through a session without dinging one side or another would be pretty slim.

Looks like a heavy grind for first pass and hollow for clean up. I think stropping would be a problem. Regardless of the difficulties I want one. Might be fun to shave with granted that I don't remove parts from my face. Reminds me of a spear head with the point ground off.
Looks like a perfect Prison weapon.
Sure - I've seen those, my wife uses them in her garden....:D
That's a very interesting piece. I'd be scared to strop it.
I spotted that on ebay as well. I reckon I'd be missing a couple of fingers if I owned that.
I saw either a picture or a patent of it the other day, cannot remember which. It is supposed to have two sets of scales like a balisong or butterfly knife, covering both blades when closed or one when the other one is in use.
Found it! These are from an Erik Anton Berg price list from 1896:
Attachment 209133
- 'Razor with double scaled blade. Etched steel shaft. (So-called "Tourist knife")'
- 'Razor with one edge exposed, as it is used for shaving.'
Attachment 209134
- 'Razor with both edges exposed.'
The Ben Hur trademark was registered to Friedrich Herkenrath, so my guess is that the razor for sale on eBay was a Solingen production for the Japanese market.
