There is a difference in the Core size of Male vs Female walrus Ivory, I can Prove it, it is Fact.
I collected Ivory for years Bill, and went to the villages and native Alaskans and traded direct with them.
I was told by a (supposed) expert that walrus tusk expands and shrinks too much and so is not suitable for scales... is this true? It was suggested that "fossilized" walrus tusk does not expand and shrink like this though it is then mineralized and too brittle... true?
Come on Pixel, you go first, I'll speak to the fossilized.
The fossilized is brittle, some more than others and heavy from the mineralization, if doubletted and stabilized it would look great and weigh little, Razor scales would be different for sure.
Maybe Pixel or myself or others here who know Ivory would give tips on Identifying on Ebay ads? I would be glad to help.
