    Default Revisor - Solingen

I've only been straight razor shaving for about a year, but I'm well bitten by the bug. I use nothing but a straight edge and really enjoy my shaving rituals. recently I wanted to add to my small collection and scanned the internet looking for something different - I came up with the Revisor out of Solingen Germany.

I did a little research and discovered - not too surprisingly - that Solingen seldom produces poor steel. One of the big deciders for me, was cost - isn't it too most of us. Currently the Euro is suffering and the Euro is at a good exchange rate, even for us in Canada.

I ordered a 6/8 blade with a very nice blue and gold etching of a local landmark - see photo below. It took about two weeks to get to me, which included a short delay in Canadian customs. I was/am very impressed by the finish and quality - but again, it's German, so not too surprising. The big surprise was the quality of the edge, it truly was shave ready - no bull. I had read report of Revisor's not being shave ready, but mine came out of the box, onto the face with no issues.

With the exchange rate as it is, for me, the Revisor range represents great value for money and a great shave. Interested to hear what you guys know/feel about Solingen blades.

    Beemer,
The Revisor is a fine razor. Also, dealing with Thomas Kronenberg is a pleasure. Good choice.

Yes, great choice. Quite a few threads here regarding Revisor razors and their excellent customer service. And you're right, with the Euro not doing so well, it's a good time to buy.

Thanks Obie, always good to know that as a 'newbie', you've made a good decision. The whole Revisor team are great to deal with.

My favorable opinion of Revisors is well documented in other threads. Unlike you though, I did not consider any of my three to have come shave ready. So you can be happy about that aspect. Congrats on a very nice new razor.

I have 2 Revisors. They are fantastic shavers. You made an excellent choice.

I may have stepped in it recently by posting a video of a Revisor factory edge that was not shave ready, but that was no reflection of my regard for the quality of Revisor razors or the people behind them.

I wish I could microscopically examine several other factory edges and make videos of my findings. I'm not going to be buying any razors any time soon, but if someone wants to mail me their brand new razor for me to examine, well, I would not be averse to that!

Don't worry, I won't hold my breath waiting for offers.

I just picked up my first Revisor Beemer and they are almost ready in my estimation for shaving. I might would put it to the hone for a few strokes maybe on a 10-12k to see if that makes it even better. Mine was great but had the slightest drag. But in no way are these shabby razors. In fact I will buy more Revisors I assure you. I think I do like them better than maybe a few other German brands.

BTW- Which Beemer bike do you ride? My last ride while not a Beemer was a British bike....Triumph Tiger! Love that bike.
    German blade snob!

Precisely. A razor that's not shave ready is not at all a knock against the razor. It'd be like getting a great car with an empty gas tank.
