Scale makers advice please

I'm putting some feelers out right now.

I'm very intrigued by the Tagua or vegetable ivory look and feel. My question: is it feasible to make some scales out of this material? I know they would most likely have at least 2 seams on each scale as the tagua nut doesn't grow large enough to make a full scale out of a single nut. With that reality, perhaps those seams could be camouflaged somehow with simple decoration so as not to take away from the look or feel of the main product.

I'm not even sure if the nut could get wet without damage. As I say, I'm just exploring potential right now. The idea, if doable, is to have a set of scales made to rescale my Wapienica razor.

My other related question: is anyone willing to do this, if it can be done?

Tagua is often used to make buttons, for shirts or jackets, so I figure that getting wet shouldn't be an issue.

Paul, I guess that makes sense. I'm hoping the project is actually feasible now.

a nice way of disguising seems is to use a thin piece of decorative brass. this is a beatiful example:

if you could make scales out of that stuff i think it would be pretty spectacular looking!

i wouldn't worry about the whole water business...there are ways to make it waterproof

you could also try the restoration forum. lots of skilled guys sharing info there

I was thinking the same thing when I saw that razor. I think I'll check the restoration forum too. I'm not getting any bites here.
