The Dovo bergischer Lowe sure is pretty. I think you can pick up a nice Revisor or Wacker in 7/8 to 8/8 for that kind of money.
I do want a Mastro Livi but want it custom to my exact wants when I can afford it. He has quoted me on it already but I'd have to sell a rifle to get it right now. Haha
Razors in the $200-$300 range the answer is simple.......I can't afford one!
Well. I can't afford one not need one but I'm putting away a bit each week to buy a nice new razor. I have some great vintage ones and used ones. My favorite is my ralf aust I purchased from a member on here. It's great. Thinking about a 6/8 size now as all of mine are 5/8. No big deal but I have the itch.
I bought this one when it was on sale, and I like it a lot! It wasn't that much cheaper on sale,
so don't be disappointed.

I would avoid thiers issard, myself and many others have been disappointed in their quality control. For $300 I'd look for a really nice vintage razor, like a wade and butcher for barbers use. If it has to be a new one, then revisor. I don't have one but have looked quite a few times. Unfortunately I went on a splurge of late, buying a few iwasakis and a bruno custom wootz so I'm living on peanut butter and jelly and Ramen for a while!
Portland Razor Co.
Brian Brown Razor Works has several beauties. I also think that Portland Razor Co. makes a nice razor for that price.

Another good choice is Jerry Stark.
Both Brian Brown and Jerry Stark offerings are solid razors made by genuine craftsmen; you can't go wrong either way. Nice thing is they are custom/semi custom goods so you have many choices as to how to set it up "your" way.
I second the Portland razor co! I love mine. For that price you can almost get two. Great deal for a handmade American razor.
If I had $300 to spend on a semi custom, it would be a 7/8 square point from Brian Brown.
I would look at Revisor.
I'd be going with either a Brian Brown, a 7.8 Hart or a Livi new grind.
I finally got this from The Superior Shave, I've wanted one for a couple of years.

+1 for the Portland RazorCo! Love my Phoenix and you can add their deluxe strop to any razor order for a real bargain. The only downside is the wait time, about 12wks for my Phoenix and same for the Kamisori I ordered afterwards and I'm still waiting on, but the delay was because Scott, their lead guy was diagnosed with cancer and couldn't work in the shop while receiving chemotherapy/radiation. He's currently cancer free, off treatment, and back in the shop, so they expect the wait time to reduce again when they get caught up. Fantastic guys to work with and they put a love for their quality into every razor. Would order again in a heartbeat.
I,ll give you best advise you will get, most are biased towards their purchases. And if you ask a guy who has bought several customs or semi customs then it's a more informed choice, but if you want to buy a razor and spend 300$ on it then custom is out, semi custom yes. Look up one of the really respected razor hone guys and ask them before getting one, those guys know the best razors for the money. When your fixing quality issues daily you tend to know who's to buy. So we have 2-3 guys around here who do this professionally so ask them first, be informed or find at least guys who have a bunch of customs to really give you an idea, or just buy them till you get the one you want, your choice. Tc
I would go with Ralf Aust. I have one in 5/8 and one in 6/8. If I had to pick one it would be the 6/8 but they are both excellent razors.
I only have 1 razor in my rotation that falls into the category that you are interested in. It is a 6/8 Revisor and I am well satisfied with it. Revisor has an incredibly line up of their own newly manufactures razors and vintage ones that appear near NOS. They are excellent to deal with, at least on the 1 occasion I had to do so. I would really have a squint at what they had to offer.

As one suggested the Ralf Aust is very hard to beat as a razor at their price point! I have two and will buy more for sure. They hold an edge as good as any razor as long as you know how to maintain the edge.
My razors have remained under $275 and I plan to keep it that way. That said, I am intrigued by BBC razors in TN. I may have to try one of Brian's creations some day!
But I have Dovo; Boker; Revisor; Ralf Aust; PRC; and Jerry Stark razors. The last two are US makers. If I had to pick one country that does best it would be the German made razors. The Germans seem to do all things well for the most part. But I really will try most any reputable maker if the price fits my budget.
As long as I can find vintage razors in great shape for less than $30.00 I see no need to buy a new one. Why when I have a 150 year old Wade & Butcher that will out shave ANY new or old straight I have ever used. I use this razor about twice a week for a nice, smooth shave. I have several other razors that are as sharp or sharper but not as smooth. I think I payed $9.00 for it with original black horn scales. I want to start making razors myself & then I may start buying new ones to see what everyone else is doing but the designs from the 1840's seem to work just fine.

Truth be told, that is why I have bought only 1 new razor. I bought it to see if I would gain something in the shave over the far less expensive vintage razors I have. New and vintage turned out to be about equal in that department, so no real gain there. OTH, there is something about getting a brand spanking new razor that has a draw all it's own. Very few of the custom made razors turn my crank, mostly for their outlandish designs in my eyes, which is just as well as they are out of my league expense wise. Have to admit though there is the odd custom that appeals to me if they are of classic design. There is something for everyone's taste and budget in this game and good thing too.

I would say save a little more and for 450-500 you can get a truly custom one of a kind from Koraat. I think for that level of razor it's the best thing going right now. They are fantastic razors.
Oh man, now we're really getting into it! Once you've saved $450-$500, save a bit more :D and for $550-$600 you can get an Ali's Blade. His blades sell out in minutes and are fine pieces of art that shave like laser beams!
Keep saving and get a Zowada, or one of Jennes, Tc
for that coin there are several NOS FILARMONICA Jose Monserat Pou razors that would get my name on them
the key here is NOS
Or, you could borrow 100K from your inlaws and get this-----> World's most expensive razor goes on sale for $100,000... and it has SAPPHIRE for blades | Daily Mail Online
You'd be silly not to, and I'm not sure why I haven't done it myself yet....
Sapphire blades sound interesting, but fragile.
In theory could be a wicked edge I suppose, and they claim a year between sharpening so I am sure over the ten year life it's worth it!
Oh yea, and it's monogrammed, so long after you pass people can still laugh at you...
Best bang for the buck is from Revisor or Ralf Aust... No question in my mind.
I believe the question to the OP is what do you like?
Do you know what you want besides 6/8 ths?
Tip?? jimps?? heft vs. deftness.
Scale material. wedge?
Everyone has spoken spot on.Decide what you like and want. Pay the piper to play your tune.

I wouldnt repurchase either Dovo or TI's.
The real kicker is spending that kind of money and then send it out to be fixed, costing you more money.
Sexiest spine in the world is butt ugly when it arrives with a frown. Worst yet is not knowing it and showing it off, only to be informed at a meet of your peers about deficiencies.
TC summed it up in the most concise manner. Talk to the honers here first.
I would go with Thiers-Issard, they are classy and unique.
That was a very steep slippery slope... I guess the bejewelled 100 grand razor won.
For that money I'd probably get - modern production wise: 2 or 3 5/8s, simple ones, instead of a fancy 7/8
Or around 10 cheap vintage razors from some auction sites to restore
And ideally I'd take all shoulder-less razors, stabilizers are a PITA on some
I have yet to find a vintage for a song that would make it worth it for me. I relish having my blade new and me handing it down in pristine condition one day to my children or grandchildren. Afterall, you think 100 years ago when a guy bought that vintage why he did not take his fathers or grandfathers????? It has to begin as vintage as new and that is me!
