    Default 7 Day Razor set

Just curious, what is the point of a 7 day set? I mean, I know it's great having several razors, but is there any real benefit or point in having a different razor for each day of the week?

I think it is more vanity than anything.

Now as to having more than one razor is very beneficial. Down time on a single owned razor from either incidental damage and need for repair; needs honing; or just in need a of particular razor shape is a must.

I think if you have several in rotation you are not honing and doing maintenance as much or seems.

But having a 7 day matching set with the day of the week engraved on the spines to me......well, vain. I know what day of the week it is without having to have a razor with it printed on it. But this is my 2 cents. I am sure I may have offended a 7 day set owner and will get a response.....LOL!

That makes some sense. I have three razors, and I do like to mix it up a little, and agree that when one is down I can keep straight razoring.

Yes Michael, I think you may well upset a few people. Personally, I don't see it as vanity - in fact you could say t's the opposite in that someone didn't really care about using a different style of razor every day, he just wanted one that was up to the job.

I assume many sets were intended for travelling or the military man - so a strop and 7 day case would have gone a long way with no honing required. And, as opposed to telling him what day it is, he would have used the days to tell him which razor was next.

Edit - Phrank posted much the same thing - I'm pleased to say.

+1 I take a set with me when I travel and it eliminates the need to bring a strop as I usually go for 3 days. My 7 day set or a set of 4 is all I need. When I get home I strop them up. Very convenient for travel.

What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

I don't, actually. But I don't hone my own yet, so having one for when I send one out is nice. So I need two, I guess. I had two "vintage" straights and then my wife bought me a new Ralf Aust for Christmas. So now I have three.

Maintenance of a 7 Day set back in the day made a lot of sense. Each razor was rotated according to the day - you would most likely only have to touch up your razors once a year, if that.

Also - if you found a style, grind and size you liked - you were good to go - back then it was just shaving.
