Antique Shaving Kit ID, any ideas?

Hi,

My dad gave me an antique razor set and I have no idea who made it or its value. On the bottom of the kit, the numbers 176 appear, but part of the bottom has been cracked and lost. I assume it means 1760-something. The only identifying mark I can see on the blades is mark, which is shown. It is on all four blades. I.M.O., everything was collected separately. The only items with a connect are the razors. The pipe logo was used by George Wostenholm but by another much earlier manufacturer used it also. The box may have been custom made to hold the items many of which are newer than the razors.
That's my guess.

Man, those razors and the box are really old and really nice.

We need Thearis to see these, have a feeling his head will explode.

I've seen the mark before, they are tortoise....beautiful set.

It is a very nice set, I just do not have a need for it. I would rather someone who can appreciate it enjoy it. It is very cool though.

You might consider putting it in the BST here in an auction format.
This would be the place to get it to an appreciative new owner here, I believe.

I have no idea what might be an appropriate place to start at price wise. Totally out of my knowledge zone.

On an auction format, it should find it's own plateau, regardless of starting point?

You would have to chip in 10.00 for the selling fee, but will be much better than listing it on an auction site such as EBay, IMO

Research in areas such as online auction sites, Ebay for items of similar nature. The market(interest in your items) will decide.

Straight Razor Place does not valuate items.

Superb set ! If posted on ebay for example, with low starting price and the right key words, the price should hit the roof !

It's probably a set from the late XVIII, possibly english or from Norway or Sweden (I know they used the pipe too).

Tortoise shell for sure.

Search for "Pipe trademark razor William Hutchinson" in Google and
Bing.

These old razors survive for a lot of reasons. But for the last
100 years shaving is not the most likely reason for keeping them.

Mid 1800 perhaps 1830... if the old discussion here was correct.

Personally I wouldn't get rid of them, they are obviously rare, perhaps early 19th century, and you may regret losing them! Besides the razors, the rest of the set is unique as well.

List it here among aficionados and see what it brings...

I think I'll list it on eBay soon and see what it brings. It needs to be in the hands of someone who can really appreciate it.

I'd take tortoise shell out of your description and put, "natural" scales...your ad may get pulled otherwise...ivory, tortoise shell banned materials now I believe...
