Thanked: 0Opinion needed on a TI
Gentlemen,
I have a beautiful TI historical 6/8 Large flat back razor; it was really shard right off the box but not really shave ready. In order to give a tune up I used a strop with diamond paste 1 and .5 micron. After a few pass on a strop it was passing the HHT without a problem but for some reason it does not give me such a good shave, it is not even close to the shave I get with my plain 5/8 Friodur even if sometime this razor is not passing the HHT. It is a gorgeous razor with a mirror finish and a very delicate and flexible edge. I have to say that I have a tough beard. I am wondering if it is just the personality of the razor, it looks really sharp but maybe the edge was never really established properly. In any case I will probably sent it to an expert for sharpening job just to be sure but if you have an opinion I will appreciate.
Thanks and have a great day

Thanked: 9Maybe you can look at the bevel and edge under magnification first? From what I understand, diamond may give a bit of a harsh edge. It can pass HHT with flying colors but still shave bad, that's not abnormal. If it's a good TI it *must* have the potential to shave great.
Sending it to the honemeisters seems like a great plan too - if it is a gorgeous razor, it deserves it. So does your face

Thanked: 0I might have a look under magnification but I am not sure if I have the experience or the knowledge to evaluate the condition of the edge, by the way here is a picture, it is really a great razor and it is amazing how delicate is the edge.
I do not have much experience but I suspect there is something wrong with the edge. I believe it can shave better then that and I prefer not to do any experimentation with it.

Thanked: 9What a beauty!
You can see uneven bevel, weird polish scratches, chips, etc. but yes - send it off to a honemeister if you don't think you have enough experience

1 micron diamond is kind of coarse to use on a brand new razor. I have about 10 TI's and usually about 30 passes on the coticule got them to shaving perfection. Ivo must have good eyes I can't see that much detail in the blade. I wouldn't worry about an uneven bevel but if there are chips thats another story and will take 4K honing to remove. Check with a magnifier. If your having trouble send it out. Don't ruin it.

Thanked: 0Gentlemen
Thanks for the feed back, actually the picture is not so good, the razor look much better in reality, in fact it look perfect, I used a magnifier and did not see any major problem, no chips nothing . Anyhow this is just telling me that the HHT does not mean anything because my Friodur is not always passing the HHT but it is giving me a perfect shave every day
By the way I just send a PM to Lynn for a tune up
Have a great day
