Robeson Shuredge (I think)

I have what I believe is a Robeson Shuredge with a hammered tang.

The texture makes it really difficult to read the tang markings let alone photograph them. It makes me wonder of the hammering occurred after the tang stamp was applied.

I was thinking about how I might be able to bring the tang stamp into more prominence. Any ideas?

The scales are not original to the razor. I put them on because the scales I received with the razor were broken with a significant piece nowhere to be found.

I've seen several Robeson SurEdge razors with the hammered tang and all that I've seen the maker's mark is still legible. This could be one with a worn die but the shape of the heel doesn't look quite right to me either. That isn't to say that this one isn't a SurEdge but I'd do some more looking if it were mine.

Of significantly more importance: How does it shave?

Ive got one and its easy to read. I dont know if a rehammering can be done but it makes me wonder if that is the reason the stamp is hard to see. Im sure mine was stamped after the hammering. And my understanding of these razors, the tang should be blued too. The hammer pattern on yours looks much different from mine and the others ive seen.

Finally got by USB scope to work. Here are some better pics.

It is clearly a Robeson, but the tang stamp looks like it didn't penetrate the hammering very well.

There is some superficial pitting close to the edge by the nose, but I haven't honed into it yet, but it is something to worry about

It does shave quite nicely.

I initially honed with a Norton 4k/8k => coticule => Vermio and then CrOx on a paddle strop. Now I try to just maintain the edge and avoid any unnecessary honing.

Yes it is a Robeson. The tangs were usually darker to give it the forged look of scale. Many polish that off thinking it is patina which can make the etching look faded in some cases
