Favorite Straight Razor

Greats posts guys, since I decided to shave my entire face, been enjoying learning to use the straight on my entire face - definitely a learning curve, under the nose, the moustache area, has proved my most challenging area, so decided to give my face a break from bleeding from the nicks I've received.

So rummaged through my shaving chest and found an old Schick Adjustable Injector razor, and some new blades - tooled it up and away I went.

What a superb shave, nice clean 3 pass shave, no cuts, and as BBS as they come...not an expensive razor by any means and certainly not in the exotic world that is straight razors, great blast from the past from the 1970's.

One thing I did forget about using DE/SE's...wow, the absolutely shrieking BURN you I get from them....never get anything like that from a straight....but was also nice to have my eyes water putting on aftershave again.

I always say my old Rich Herder sold from D. Grandsard of Oostburg is my fave.
Old German grinding was great. Seems there was an Oostburg in Holland and one in Wisconsin!

Wish I knew from where it was sold?

Sounds like my experience as a beginner using a Gillette adjustable so many years ago. Today is a different story though as I get very little to no burn from using a DE/SE. You're probably just out of practice with using a DE/SE. No reason using one should give you that bad a razor burn.

I have gone through several phases in this hobby. Be it a focus on a specific brand, grind, style etc.

My current collection consists mostly of 7/8 - 8/8 Solingen type 14 full hollows. I just love how they shave, look and take an edge.

Cannot say which is my favorite shaver among them, as they all shave alike.

I have a few favorites, but right now my favorite is the big Reynolds that Outback scaled up for me. I have others that I love, but this one is my favorite today.

Those Reynolds Rattlers shave a treat. I have had several and someone had to have them......Another around here.
Need to get it going!

Sure you aren't using too much pressure or something? I dont get too much burn from my DE unless I do too many passes or use too much pressure. My adjustable SLIM left my face raw when I first started using it. I like shaving with it now.

An adjustable Schick?? Pics?

After a Great honing job on my Big Talley Ho, it has become my favorite razors. For now. But next month it will be another one. I just know it.

The question was about a favorite razor, not necessarily a best shaver. For some, their favorite might be their best shaving razor, but for others it might be their oldest, rarest razor, or one from an artisan. My best shaver is one of my Iwasaki razors, although if I had to pick one favorite it would be a custom Tim Zowada. There is such a difference between Japanese straights and Solingen, Sheffield, and Swedish straights, that I tend to think of my favorites as one from each group. What I shave most frequently with, my daily driver, has more to do with size, grind, weight, and what just feels right in my hand, and has nothing to do with appearance, cost, or rarity. Lately it's been a Friodur 17 1/2 7/8 half-hollow razor that's not expensive, doesn't have fancy scales or blade decoration, is very common, and is just a joy to shave with. Several characteristics that I like in a razor all seem to come together in this one razor. That doesn't mean that I'm not attracted to fancy scales or blade decoration, or to a unique razor from an artisan, or to Tom's gorgeous razors, but if I had to pick only one razor to take to a desert island, it would be this Friodur.
