Hi I picked up 2 straight razors at a car boot sale thanks to this site I’ve got information on 1 but still know nothing about the other one it’s stamped “ T. Ibbotson 54 Whitechapel Liverpool “ anyone know anything about it? And while I have bought it to use it I’m curious about value?

the one with t Ibbotson one is probably a business that had a manufacture stamp their name on the razor for them because i am not aware of any razor makers in liverpool but i could be wrong as i have seen liverpool stamped on razors

Yes I googled it that’s how I found this site the other blade I got is stamped “ Edward Smith “ and this site has information about him; I think it says “ maker “ after Ibbotson but I’m not sure it’s rusty and I’ll have to take it apart to clean it properly

Wonder if it’s the same person? Not a common surname or maybe family?? Where did you find this out? I’ll try and follow that up thanks

Also try an identification and value guide like one of these two. There are some holes in what is listed since there were so many cutlers over the centuries that straight razors have been made but Ibottson, Peace & Co. is listed in the Standard Guide shown below. You may be able to find a copy of it online in physical or digital form. Remember if you have an old addition you will have to adjust to current value in $/£/€ etc.


Also as mentioned before post some pictures. That might help in telling you something about it.

Thank you everyone! This has led me to a few articles graces guide in 1859 have a listing where Thomas Ibbotson dissolved his business leaving it to 3 sons Thomas William and peter there’s other references to them in Sheffield and Liverpool mainly starting with woodworking tools then going into engineering tools while there are references to cutlery and gentlemen tools I haven’t seen a specific reference to razors they were in business at least to early 1900s
