Exotism is why there is a market for razors made from 500 year old tamahagane, Alfred Pendray wootz or meteorite. It's not like the 4 figure price tag makes it shave 10 times better or makes the edge last 10 times longer.
But every one of those things is unique, one of a kind, and pretty much irreplaceable. They are more like artpieces that you can shave with (and shave very well).
For some reason, 'the market' has decided that Vermeer and Michelangelo paintings are worth hundreds of millions, and reproductions that cannot be distinguished from them, only a couple thousands.
Exotism is what drives any market in the higher segments.
