Yes, looks like that one has lost some steel over the years, beautiful razors though and so hard to find in great complete condition.
Karlej restored mine with some period scales.

I like what he did with the scales.
Those blotches look amazing.
If i ever restore my one it will have to be done by hand because of all the nooks n crannies (no thank you)
They are called "half rattlers" and they are IMHO the most demanding type of blades because they are ground twice :
- Once perpendicular to the edge
- Once parallel to the edge
and that second grind, the "rattler" grind, has always been one of the most challenging.
In images, it's the process on the left

(on the right that would be a bellied hollow)
George Wostenholems, also made one similar to the Lancet.

My God, those Mappins are beautiful. I don't have one sadly, but this Wostenholm saber grind is a favorite. The rear blade face is flat.

And then the great Sergei (sp?) of Riga razors did this beast for me a couple of years ago in Tungsten steel and blonde horn scales per my request, it’s 9/8 - asked him to do a tribute to the Mappin, thinking I'd never find one.
Guy is a ferkin' master grinder, just a beautiful razor in every way.

I'd love to have one.
After looking for years, I've pretty much given up.
If you are ever lucky enough to come across one, the cost is astronomical.
They're just not out there.
