You have some very intriguing razors. That one is a little scary looking, but it looks like it gets into the places a gentleman with a beard might wish to shave.
They're good razors. I've got one with ivory scales - it came in the original 1850s twin case - now I just need to find it's mate. I think the grinding process was very demanding of both skill and time, and there was possibly a significant wastage rate. Mappin seem to have stopped making them in about 1858 when they started to heavily promote their Shilling Razor.
That is one cool looking razor
It has been pointed out to me that it could have been a large fella cut down by a chip...
Makes sense. I'll do a bevel angle calculation tonight see what's what..
Joe, all the Mappin Lancets I have seen look around 7/8 - 8/8s

I just measured the bevel angle which comes out around 20+ degrees . Conclusion : Verdict : Summary : Its been chopped down .
Such is life on this lonesome rock on which we travel through space..
I'm not affected by this outcome, i'm just thinking out aloud
I will add that whilst searching for this elusive razor which i knew i had but couldn't find. I came across some even more special stuff which i will show ..soon :)
Mine is like yours; now a 6/8. Therefore it's either had a hell of a lot of wear or it had a chip ground out:D I paid less than 100 US for it and it shaves well (plus I've got the twin case) so I'm happy.
