You are very lucky to own family heirlooms like those razors.
I second the motion to buy a couple of good, shave ready razors to learn with.
The Buy-Sell-Trade section is a good place to start looking.

I did that too but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. When I sent it out to get that repaired, it came back properly honed and I started to learn all about what I had been missing. Very happy not to have done that to an heirloom.

Ask your grandfather if he has his strop or bones of any other gear. It would save you buying some.

I did ask him for a strop and offered to pay him for it if he wished and he replied “I have one but there a lot of memories stored in that leather that I can’t get rid of yet.” I left it at that lol. He did say that he would leave it to me if and when he passes on.

I think that most of us that use this site on our mobile devices scrole to the bottom and set it up for the full site version. I find it better to deal with than the mobile. But I dont know squat when it comes to these computer things really. Enough to get by and take care of me and mine if I'm lucky.

What's bad is, like I mentioned, I'm a Systems Administrator II for a bank that covers the majority of the southeast US and I still have problems with mobile versions of sites hahahaha

Welcome and enjoy your time with us. I too have heirlooms that I cherish dearly. I too recommend NOT starting with restoration on them. I can understand wanting to be the one who brought them back but don't start with them. In fact it would be best to send them to someone skilled in that capacity. I'm sure that your grandfather would be thrilled to see them returned to their former glory. Definitely check out the BST section. Lots for sale there that are worth buying shave ready. I recommend a round point to start. Bouschie usually has something up for a great price among others. Also Tony Miller (Heirloom Workshops) sell great strops for very affordable prices. Make sure to read up a lot and watch plenty of videos.

Pretty sure Bouschie meant "hones" not bones.
