Default Am I saving the wrong razors?

After posting about the way my Maestro razors were chipping I was struck by the thought that I was saving the wrong blades to sell later. The TI’s are becoming more expensive and the Maestros are selling for about 20% less now then when I bought my razors! Have you ever just looked at your refection and said SUCKER? I did when I realized just how overpriced the Maestros were when I bought them. I have a few weeks before the TIs will need honing so I have until than to decide. All the razors in question are in mint of near mint condition by the way.

It's hard to tell when it comes to values. Maybe the Maestros are bringing 20% less today but they could be 25% more tomorrow. Maybe the TI's have gone up in price but maybe tomorrow, they'll drop in price. If supply and demand was that easy to predict, I'd make a fortune on Wall Street.

I think it doesn't hurt to keep what you like the most. I also think trading is exciting and fun whether you "profit" from it any way except for the experience.

Buy razors for shaving, not for investing.

Focus on the shave, not the hype.

My favourite razors (I've not owned a Maestro).

    Chandler 8/8
    Refurbished W&B 7/8 tapering 1/4 hollow
    Refurbished Rogers 6/8 wedge
    Friodur 7/8
    J Holler 5/8 3/4 hollow

All of these razors combined cost me just over what the cheapest Maestro goes for.

I'm still relatively new to straight shaving, but in the 4 months that I have been at this I have purchased razors, sold razors, honed razors, etc...but all the while I have been figuring out what "type" of blade I like the best and my rotation will eventually reflect that. As was already said, trading and trying different razors is part of the enjoyment. So, keep what you like, unless this is a financial decision.

as a man with little fact to offer on these types of matters... id say it depends on how many you have, how many you are looking to get rid of, and why you are getting rid of them.... if you are getting rid of them to make way for new ones that are considered collector pieces... why get rid of collector pieces you already have? thats like trying to build a gun collection and selling your arms to buy new ones.... you would just be trading... if you are selling them to give newbies (like myself) options for nice razors that you dont really care for to shave with because you have 10 others that shave just like it, and its not really a collectors item... then keep the collector pieces as well as 1 or 2 of your best shavers.... if you are having financial difficulties and you have 20 collectibles and 30 great shavers... keep 5 of your favorites on both sides of the spectrum and sell the rest.... just my $0.02

I'd say keep what you like. I dunno the market well enough to give investing advice, although who knows how the new generation of TIs will affect things when they come out ...

Keep what gives you the best shave, and sell the rest. For this valuable advice, I will lower my usual fee to merely one Mastro Livi razor. Consider it an SRP discount.

I am not selling any razors. I was asking which ones to keep in storage and not use. But your advice dose make sense. I just have a hard time grinding on something that cost me so much when I was unemployed.
