I have a similar face/neck situation and in my experience (not nearly as extensive as some on this forum, but experience nonetheless) wedges, or 1/4 hollows as most wedges really are, give a better control, and are not any harder to hone/strop.
But this may be that I have steel wire for facial hair and full hollows just jump around trying to cut it and the extra heft of the wedge inhibits that excessive movement.
also, try stretching/moving the skin of an area you can't reach to one that you can (within reason). I have to do this for the little dip area where those glands are on either side of the esophagus.
