Tarnish

I bought a brand new Theirs Issard straight razor and love it, but....I noticed small brownish dots appearing on the blade? The dots are like BB size.
I always wash off the razor in hot water and dry it before storing it.
Any suggestions? Should I buy a metal polish?

One should always have a good metal polish on hand. I like Simichrome. Many members here use a product called MAAS and another called Flitz. I've never tried either of those.

Little brown spots an your razor may not be tarnish. They may be liver spots. Has your razor been checked by its doctor? Have you noticed any yellowing of the scales? The combination of liver spots and jaundice may indicate hepatitis b. This is very contageous and you may be in danger. I suggest you send me the razor and I will see what I can do. Sometimes we cannot actually cure the poor thing. We can only treat it palliatively and try to make it as comfortable as possible until...well...you know.

Sometimes you get water spots and spots from the soap or very light rust spots. First try using a pencil eraser if that doesn't work then the metal polish is next but if the razor has gold wash on it be careful because metal polish will remove it in part or in full.

Hi,

After you've got it clean again oer above give it a thin coat of Tuf-Glide or silicone or other protectant. Search Honing threads for other product names.
