So should I go for one of the DOVOs then?
I thought you were getting a Conk as a grad present already. Just get it sharpened and that should be fine :)
Grad present? That makes it free doesnt it. Hell what are you waiting for, go get it. But chances are it will need to be honed. Have fun.

Introduction to razors
great service and great prices for vintage straight razors. My 2 pence of mind...
personally, i have a timor razor and a zeepk. i have had no problem out of either, the zeepk was my first, but i have had no problems keeping it sharp, true it doesnt hold up as long as the timor... but i shave daily and hone it on my bench strop with .25 micron diamond past every other week and strop it every other day on the regular leather strop.... up till recently i used a black arkansa stone to sharpen and straight to a zeepk strop for 40 odd swipes and it gave a good close shave. i hear allot of greif over the zeepk and really dont understand it, ya i had a dovo for awhile and theres a world of difference, but your talking about a ten to twenty dollar razor compared to over a hundred dollar one.... duhh point is i highly sugest a zeepk just know it does require a bit more maintance
There are heaps of great, vintage razors that can be had for less than $20 - but not new, you are right about that
you may have got that one out of a hundred that accidentally takes a great edge :D Many congrats if it's working for you, but there sure are a lot of negative reviews out there on the brand
Go on please, your going 2 have to give a full review on it. Ill shave with a cheese grater and give a review as well
I never again want to hear the words 'highly' and 'Zeepk' (which doesnt even deserve a capital Z) in the same sentence.
The only time you would hear them is if you were to say: 'I highly suggest Zeepk should stop production. I cant believe the credit crunch hasn't eradicated them. Their must be a high demand for letter openers in Pakistan.' :):):)
Gentlemen,
I have never even heard of Zeepk razors. If I were to run into straight razor named Zeepk, I would instantly be reminded of the name Yugo — and tiptoe my way out.
Put another way, if I want to become a gentleman shaver and embrace the straight razor, I would start by buying a name brand from a vendor who offers it. A straight razor that is labeled Dovo, Thiers-Issard, Boker, and scores of other prominent names, should be good for starters.
Later, when I have learned the ins and outs of the straight razor world, then I can pursue the esoteric names.
But then I'm just a straight razor pilgrim — and will always be one.

Obie
