Sheffield Razors

I recently found a razor theat says THo Whatham & Co razor that also has SHeffield written under this onthe tang. Does anyone recognize this brand name?, Is it valuable or is it so valuable it should go to my private personal collection? Also, can anyone give me a uick rundown on how to determine the composition of the achale?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Standard Guide To Razors , second edition , gives a base value of $11 USD for Thomas Whatham & Co . razor , so I don't think it's particularly rare . Of course the base value is only a starting point in determining the value of your razor , there are other things to consider , such as scales , blade shape , artwork , condition , etc. . IE: if your razor has plain black scales and is in good useable condition it may be worth $22-$33 , but if it has fancy scales with bolsters and inlays , etched blade , and is in unused mint condition it may be worth $80 or more . But the TRUE value of the razor is what YOU think it's worth (within reason , of course)

Just for info here....
The Standard Guide is more for razor collectors than for those of us that are in it for the shave..... It is a great resource for learning about when and where the razor was made, but their valuing system is bias toward the scales not the steel....
