To start with, same tired story, been shaving with a DE razor for a while and want to start using a straight.
I found a very old straight that belonged to the previous owner of my parent's first house.
I know I need to start with something shave-ready but I'm wondering if I would be better off getting this honed by a honemeister or just getting a used shave ready from someone else and maybe using this to practice honing myself.
I'm guessing if this razor is decent I should get it honed and use that, if it's junk I might as well start with some good steel.
It appears very sharp still (catches on a thumbprint) but has rust spots even on the edge in a few spots. The case reads H.BOKER&CC'S UNRIVALED RAZORmade in germany with the razor itself reads MANUFACTURED BY W.GREAVES&SON SHEATWORKS the blade looks like just a hair under 7/8 square tip.
Does anyone know anything about this blade? Is it work anything or should i just get a new one and use this as practice?
Thanks
Mike
