Thread: Worlds Most Expensive Razor

Did a search and couldn't find anything about this, so figured i'd post it up, Sorry if this is a re-post.

$30,000 razor

Hommage, the Parisian purveyor of luxury grooming equipment, skincare and spa services for men, has created a limited edition, platinum-sheathed straight razor using the same ancient layering techniques as the Crusaders' swords, for $30,000. Called the Damascene Razor, the blade is hand-forged in Germany with 128 layers of legendary Damascene steel, with a rose and torsion pattern. The sheath is plated in pure platinum, treated to resist tarnishing.

The razor comes in a lacquered gift box of Tanzanian anigré wood. The name Damascene is often attributed to the steel swords made in the vicinity of Damascus, Syria and first gained its mythical reputation during the medieval Crusades. According to Hommage, "the blade of a Damascus steel sword was said to be able to cut a piece of silk in half as it fell to the ground and was strong enough to cut through a rock without losing its sharpness." And now you can use it to get the world's most expensive shave.

I will never understand the desire to have "the world's most expensive shave"... maybe the most comfortable and smooth one... but expensive... I am ready to shave anybody for 1 million bucks - if what he wants is to have the most expensive shave!

In all this sad story, I am just so sorry for the guy who forged those blades... it's so ugly... I hope that besides not having made a beautiful and affordable razor people will be able to shave with, he'll get rich - BTW does anybody knows who forged the blade?

I'm sure it's a great blade.
But many members here in this forum could make scales that look maybe 1000 times better.

Next time visit straightrazorplace.com if you want someone to put scales on a razor that mean business

I'm sure somewhere in some museum is a razor used by some famous or infamous personage from history that would go for much more if it was ever to go up for sale.

You mean like mine will someday

Platinum scales are ridiculous but I like the general idea of the pivot. The scales need to be tweaked to better suit the blade and pivot.

I'd like to see the new owner test the marketing hype and see if it was still sharp after cutting thru a rock - oh wait that was 'legendaryDamascus swords'. Maybe a pebble is an appropriate test for a razor.

I was at a swap meet and one seller supposedly was selling Adolf Hitler's Razor for $5000.00. I imagine it was a forgery, but supposedly it was a blade given to adolf from Charles Lindbergh and had an inscription on it. $30,000.00 for an ugly POS???

In in a world when people literally have more money in the bank than many 3rd world countries, buy Gulfstream jets and $250,000 wristwatches-I'll bet they haven't had ANY problems selling it.

Plus, you could paint the scales black,pass right on through customs and have enough ready cash to hide somewhere....
