Default Need Help Finding Blades. Need Long Ones With Thick Base.

Hi, I was hoping someone on here could help me. I have a straight razor that uses disposable blades that I got from my mom(hairdresser turned doctor with no need for it) that I'm having trouble finding blades for. I've already bought two sets of injector blades that are too thin to be gripped by the razor. It uses a small screw you turn to close on the base of the razor so I'm looking for the longer ime with a base like a regular razor blade. It's hard to tell online which ones the blades are in the product picture, hence my confusion. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If your mother was a hairdresser, chances are you have a Weck (or similar) hair shaper that has the same configuration as a straight razor except that the tang and scales are shorter. If it is a hair shaper, you can get replacement blades at any beauty supply store or online. Personna and several other companies still make blades to fit these shapers.

It's a Vantage but the "hair shaper" was what I was looking for. Thanks for that. Also, I'm really only looking to use this to shape up the lines in my beard. If I do decide to shave completely with this, is it a good idea or should I go with an injector blade holder? I don't think I'm committed enough for stropping and honing.

Your success in trimming your beard with a hair shaper will depend on your technique and preferences. Weck began making razors with replaceable blades in the early 1900s and continued to sell them for most of
the century. Although, I suspect, the 'purists' on this site probably wince at the very mention of a razor with a replaceable blade, many thousands of men shaved every day with this type of equipment. Along with my Dubl Ducks, Dovos, W&Bs, and other razors of note, I own several Wecks, Litts, and - yes (Heaven help me) even a Durham Duplex. All with replaceable blades. These razors are very serviceable and should serve your purposes. As to the question of shaper vs. injector . . . that would be for you to decide. Get a sleeve of Personna blades and have a go. Who knows, you might like it so much that you hack off that beard and become a regular straight shaver in the future.

    Regards - Walt

Yea, I'm about to order some Personnas and try them out. I might move to using them on the parts of my face and neck I shave to shape my beard but for starters I'll just edge up around the hair. It's not really possible to get a close shave right next to the beard with a regular razor and keep the line nice, too easy to but a dent in it. I'll defiitely be checking the site out for tips on how to shave once I start. Thanks.
