Occasionally I see ads for stamped Wapis claiming that the stamped versions are "prized." I just saw an ebay listing for such prized SFK stamped Wapis for sale for $55 BIN.
In my experience with Wapis, I cannot discern a difference between the quality of the stamped and unstamped versions.
I'm sure this is a stupid question, but...
Does anyone have an opinion about this?
In my limited experience with Wapi's I too have not seen a difference...
Nope! Me either, but all the ones I have left are SFK stamped, so I say yes, the stamped ones are more special than the others! :w

I have noticed all of the unstamped wapienica razors I have seen seem to show a goldish tint in the scales and also feature outside washers whereas the others do not :hmmm:
Well, I can see a Martensite trout swimming through the gleaming metal of the SFKs...??

This is how it starts. I've never had a Wapi nor desired one. Now after these recent threads I'm considering one. Of course if I get a stamped Wapi then I will figure I need one with no stamp. :shrug: A year or two from now they will probably achieve the legendary status of the Wonderedge. :gaah:

I have only three: two unstamped, one stamped. I can honestly say I have discerned no difference between them in terms of colour, shave, or honing. They are, however, ever so slightly different measurements. I think there's only 1/16 in it.

In my opinion, a Wapi is the perfect starter razor regarding edge, price and honing.
But it's also great for the advanced users and for travelling.
It's not better than my Boker for example, but I'm very satisfied with it.
I have a sfk oblique Wapi and it is fine. A little scale heavy and I wish the blades were a lot bigger, but very nice.
I just got my 3 Wapis and find that the unstamped one has a golden tint. My SFK and SFM don't have that tint.

I believe the ones with the slightly yellowish look are carbon steele that has been nickel plated. I have 4/8 with stainless handles which are silver and 5/8 which I believe to be nickel plated carbon steel.Quote:

So far I have seen stamped SFK and SFM wapis, steel scales, plastic scales, oblique and round point, near-wedge grind and full hollow and 5/8 and 11/16 blades. I even have two with what looks very much like the old Skoda logo plus SFK on the tang. All Wapis. All gone. No more! Reckon I have seen 400+ of them in the last year and a half and they all have one thing in common - get a good one and it's very good but the scrap rate is 20%+. Which means I have quite a few to go to landfill...............:gaah:

You should keep a few of the reject Wapis.
The one you sent to me for stropping and honing practice proved absolutely invaluable !
Without it I would have ****ed up even more edges !

well I am trying to rescue some - especially those with cosmetic problems (just a few) or those with slightly uneven edges - nothing wrong per se but a buyer might think they were 'warped' when in fact it's just a very old grinding machine wheezing out heaven knows how many blades and it has had the odd 'hiccup' now and then. Then there are the ones that are truly bad - warpage, cracked blades, chipped etc etc - might save 'em for a few years, cast them in resin and sell them as paperweights.............:hmmm:
one of the wapienica ( maybe 10% on both sides) was covered with some crazy black stuff in the form of thin Spaghetti or the fluffy stuff they sell in Kids-R-Us.
Razor was wrapped in oiled/waxed paper and straight from original factory plastic box.
After saturating that "asphalt" for 15 minutes I was able to remove completely with scotch pad and dremel tool.
whatever it was, that chemical have eaten away some metal and created shallow pits.
