    Default W.S. Brown Razors

    All,
I picked up a vintage SR at a local antique store over the weekend. It was in a case with 3 other small straights. It came with a case and is in very good conditions. The name on the box and on the stamped on the shank. It is from W.S. Brown, made in Germany and it is the "Special" model.

It was in such good condition that I was able to bring it home, clean it with alcohol, honed it and stropped it and was able to shave with it on Sunday morning. I think that it is a 5/8 and it is an Extra hollow grind. Has anyone heard of this particular razor? It is stamped Pittsburgh, PA and Germany so I am assuming that it was made in Germany for a company here in Pittsburgh.

    Thanks,
    -Jim

Jim, from Goins' Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings, here is an entry that should help with dating your razor. Looks like the company imported razors from both Sheffield and Germany. Can you post some pictures?

W.S. BROWN PITTSBURG g 1890-1920. "I*XL. George Wostenholm Sheffield" is stamped on the blade.
