7 day set = Can anyone tell my if this is any good?

That is a really premium set and well worth what you paid.

The set was made for tourists. Back when these were made Germany was still struggling to recover from the devistation of WWII and there were hundreds of grind shops in Solingen. What would make you think they would send them to Sheffield to be ground? There wasn't that much international economic cooperation at that point in time. Silver Steel is just a good grade of tool steel and nothing more. Some say it and some don't but they are almost always the same exact steel as the next razor only it was forged into a die set that didn't say Silver Steel.

That really IS a premium set. I would definately hold on to that if it was mine.

That's about £30.00 per razor for some of the nicest looking razors around! I'm so glad they turned out to be good shavers.:beer1: cheers!

According to my 1910 barbers' manual blanks used to be shipped from Sheffield to Germany for grinding. In England a law was passed that English blanks finished in Germany were not to have "made in England" but "made in Germany" on them. This has led to the decline of Sheffield's razor industry as people felt they had been cheated by Sheffield razor makers. The law was of course intended to encourage grinding in England but it never came to that due to Solingen's technological lead.

I think it's a great looking set, and $350 is a great price. I'd love to find a deal like that.

I wish I could get one of these sets. Its on my hit list.

As to the English script thing- I dunno how many people are European or have been to Europe, but almost EVERYONE there speaks English perfectly well. Especially the Germans. Its funny, a couple of my friends tried starting conversation in German and the Germans would just start speaking English.

Plus everywhere you go in the world, artisans in small markets know just enough English to sell their products.

That aside, how many US GI's were stationed in Germany after WWII? Lots and lots. And at that time Germany was broke to put it lightly and the US was the richest country in the world.

This set is clearly a souvenir set... so why wouldn't the very capable Germans stamp it fully in English for the foreign occupation soldiers to buy? To assume that it was ground in Sheffield is an insult to the Germans that they wouldn't be able to learn the smallest amount of English phrases... when many of them are fluent.
