Baccash, Saigh & Co.
This week I received my first straight razor, a Baccash, Saigh & Co. 5/8th half hollow ground. I paid 15€ (21$) for it. The edge seems to be in good condition though not shave ready; the scales have one nick from the blade hitting it but otherwise they are also in relatively good condition.
I'm interested about its history; the previous owner didn't know anything about it and Google turned up nothing, so I was hoping if any of the experts here might find out the period when these razors were manufactured.
The box has this inscription:
BACCASH, SAIGH & Co
CHICAGO, ILL
MADE IN GERMANY
No 1050
Price 3,50$

This may or may not be true, but I'm pretty sure that when a blade says "made in _____," it's usually pretty tough to figure out who actually made her. You may have more luck with a date, though. Most (maybe all, but I couldn't say) vintage blades that are stamped "Made in Germany" turn out to be solid shavers.

Here's a picture of it I made with my scanner, including the box and the instructions I found inside it. :)
I bought this razor to motivate me into starting a new hobby, and of course to get a better shave. So now I just need to buy a strop and a few hones. And some soap and a brush and ... Where did all the money go? :D

I've been reading the wiki and made myself a light diffuser like instructed so the pictures below are a bit better.

Needs some buffing I think.

The (empty) backside had some uneven patina and a few pits so I decided to hand sand it carefully, not touching the bevel or the spine. As is obvious from the picture it's still work in progress. Sore wrists. :o

It's not very pretty yet but it's getting there. :)
