Thanks a lot for the tips, guys. I had forgotten about Revisor...they have some real beauties, I'll have to look some more at them.
I appreciate the link to the Wacker site, Kees, thanks for that--and thanks also for your offer of help, but German is actually not a big problem. I sent Herr Wacker an email about shipping to Japan, let's see how that goes.
And Seth, you've got good eyes--that one, the Red Head, and the Wacker 8/8tel were on my short list...
As for TI...So, let me get this straight: the Le Grelot is a 1/4 hollow, French point, 5/8-6/8 possibly Swedish steel blade?
That sounds a WHOLE LOT like my Wapi...or am I totally off base here?
Jimmy, the first place I look every day is the classifieds. I just haven't seen anything lately (in my price range...) that hits on all cylinders.
Right now it looks like Wacker and Revisor are big contendors, though...
I'd like to help you but you didn't say if your wife gave you permission to spend a limited amount of money or not. Depending on that we can make better recommendations to you.
Sorry about that. The fact is, the budget isn't firm. It's more of a "How will she react tot he price, and how much am I willing to endure for the razor?"
Let's just say around US$300 will earn me a steely gaze that cuts like a laserbeam, and is terrifying in its power...About US$250 will bring a furrowed brow...and roughly US$200 will see slightly pursed lips but a curt nod.
If the razor is good enough, it's worth the pain. Above $300, though, and I don't want to imagine the repercussions. So customs are probably out of the picture at the moment...
I'd look at a Livi regrind or new grind or whatever they are called. I think they are in your budget and they are great razors.
