For a razor made over 200 years ago, the heat treatment hardness of cast steel,
Steel was as strong as steel today. It took some time to design the bevel using the ATOMA diamond plate, and shaving with the Taiwanese stone HONING RAZOR feels great.

Jimps tooth design was rare at that time,
This razor makes me forget that it is a razor with a history of more than 200 years. The shaving feels so comfortable.

Some of that old cast steel takes and holds a remarkable edge considering the primitive nature of their technology relative to today. I too like the edge going around the smile for detail shaving. I hone my old notched Sheffields around the rounding of the toe for that purpose.


I have others where it is more pronounced but you can still see how I honed it all the way around that curve (red arrow). You can tell by the hone wear that was too heavy to work out that I am not the first (blue arrow).

One has to be careful though as it is easy to get bitten by it accidentally.

I will set the R angle at the red arrow position just to reduce cuts.
There is no right or wrong. As long as you get used to the control,
you will enjoy the shaving process.

I felt the same way, after restoring and shaving with my first, old cast steel razor from the late 1700 s. Surprisingly comfortable and smooth.
