I wouldn't start with that one. Get yourself something that has been around a while but isn't as nice or as collectable as this one and practice with it. When you can turn it into a good shaver - which you can with patients, practice and a good Sheffield, Solingen or old American razor - then hone this one.

+1. That is a beauty and can, in all probability, be brought back to near perfection at worst. Practice on something else. Might even be worth sending that one out.

I will be a voice of dissent here:

I say restore and practice honing on that razor! If you get a bad edge, you know that it's your honing, and not a question of poor steel quality.

Just take your time and it should turn out magnificent and it would be very satisfying to say you did it all yourself, don't you think?

I would love to do a full restoration on this blade, i think it'd be quite nice, definitely needs new scales though, they're not the best. I've a '****ty' ebay special on the way i might try and get shave rdy 1st, pending how that goes, I'll attempt to try and restore this one... just wondering how do i find out a ruff time of manufacturing, I'd like to find out some details of the era b4 deciding on scales...

Yeah ruffly 50 year span, was hoping to narrow it down :D it's a starting point though :D

So it's been awhile, since, I started this thread, After a numerous hrs, and quite a few cuts while sanding I've since 'finished' cleaning the razor.... I don't think it's quite right but I'm still happy with it, for the 1st attempt, learned a little with Dremel tools and etching, they don't really like each other, lucky enough that I didn't ruining it... couple of deep scratches that were a little close to the etching that I didn't really want to temp fate... But here's the pic's anyway.
