My stylist likes to use a razor....

when he is finishing up at the back of the neck. He has been using a regular shop bought razor but when I showed him my straight he asked for a recommendation.

Being new to straights myself, I thought I should turn to the forum and the wisdom contained within.

Given that the majority of his clients are female and that he won't be doing face shaves (illegal in NJ), would you think that a smaller 4/8 might be a better choice? I am thinking that he can get greater accuracy with the smaller blade.

Any permanent bladed razor might be illegal. Have him check the local codes. I know here it is completely illegal to use a permanent bladed razor to shave at all, even just the neck.

A Diane 21 that takes a disposable straight. Its inexpensive and works well. I have one and can get a decent shave with it - go figure! It is 1/2 inch.

I think it sell on-line for about $6.00 and the blades are a few dollars. I managed to get 5 shaves with each blade.

I'll have to get him to check on the code. He does a lot of model work in New York so he'll have to check for there too I suppose.

I think he wanted the WOW aspect of a smart looking but functional straight so, although the recommendation of a Diane makes ense, I think it wouldn't fit the image.

Up here in Canada the razor of choice for stylists seems to be the Fromm Hairshaper. THey're inexpensive and work well.

I juyst googled and I think you will find that the Diane and the Hairshaper are essentially the same. The other shavette that I have personal experience of is the Sanguine X D20, which takes half a DE blade. It is a good, well balanced tool with greater size and heft than the Hairshaper. If you look on Sanguine's website you will find it, as well as number of other shavettes.
