Trading razors...

Do we have a part of this forum...or anywhere on the net set up to trade razors? It would be a cool addition to the classifieds here. I have a couple that are get talked about and it would be cool to trade out to experience some others.

Does that exist anywhere that we know of?

You just place a WTT (Wanted To Trade) ad in the classifieds and see if anyone bites. This is the only place within the forums in which you can advertise for trading.

I think those rules are safeguards put in place to ensure that anyone selling or trading on this forum are really posting,contributing members and not just random people who join just to sell their stuff or even worse,we've had a lot of spammers trying to sell all sorts of things on here.

I finally got serious about straights back in early summer because of a trade request posted here on SRP - a member wanted to trade some straights for vintage fountain pens. I have dozens of pens, many of which rarely see the light of day, so I PM'd and we made some trades after exchanging pics and values for the items. Although he didn't ask, I proposed that I would send the pens first. He'd look at them, try them out and if he wanted to go ahead, he'd send the razors. If he didn't he'd ship the pens back, or only some if he wanted to keep 1 or 2. The same satisfaction guarantee came back from him: I was free to return any of the razors and we would deal with the adjustment based upon the agreed upon values - he could return a pen of a certain value or he could opt to take the razor back and send me $ instead

We did this, and it worked with no snags. I ended up with several shave ready straights, and he ended up with some vintage FPs that he obviously wanted.

In fact, we went back and did a second deal following the same process. This time, he didn't wait to receive the pens before he shipped the razors. It still worked out. I haven't had any complaints, and haven't heard any from him. (If either of us had, I am sure we would have worked it out.)

The irony is that that sort of transaction - in which I, the relative newcomer, put his goods at risk by shipping them first for the other's examination and approval - is one I could not and (still cannot) propose on this board, because I have fewer than 100 posts.

That's true but it's not as hard as you think. I came from car forums and years ago members with 5000-10000 posts were considered veterans and/or knew a lot about mods and such. Go to Appearance and Cosmetic and you see several other members with such posts. To me post count don't mean jack. It's the quality of such posts that matter not the year/date joined.

The aforementioned A/C forum someone posts a modded car and you'd more than likely see response along lines of:

From what I've seen thus far you've several upstanding members willing to help out as can be seen in Newbie forum for one.

I bought a couple razors from Classifieds and I kindly reminded seller to leave a feedback for me. He didn't know where to do it so I had to link him my feedback section which wasn't big deal. It took little getting used to as I've never utilized the feedback system myself. People sometimes don't leave feedback. Perhaps they forget it's there or simply don't know how to use it.

Also I doubt anyone would wait 3 solid months just to scam members on forum. No one would stick around that long. :thumbup:
