We have been talking about the Japanese Non-Folding razors and I thought it would be cool to show you this Korn Non-Folding Straight Razor made in the US. It is called "The Real" and was sold as a Safety Razor because of the little screen that comes with it.
On one side of the blade is etched " The Real" patented in 1908 and the other side has the Korn company etching from Little Valley, NY.
Sorry the pics didn't turn out too good. It is actually in near mint condition.

According "The Razor Anthology" in 1903 these razors were in sale already, for $2.

It is not uncommon for items to be sold prior to the patent date as you may recall items marked Patent Pending. Obviously, if your razor is stamped with the 1903 Patent date it was manufactured in 1903 or later.

What a cool razor, Lynn. How's it shave? Try it in "safe" mode?
It is a cool little shaver. Like a japanese razor that you can switch hands will. Full hollow ground so both sides are shavable. Being a Korn, it takes a great edge. No safe mode for me......:)

That's a VERY cool and very rare piece!
I'm getting ready to experiment with one-piece non-folding straight razors. I don't know for sure if I like the Japanese single bevel design or not, but I'm going to try it with both single and double bevels.
