Expert Help Needed: Sheffield Maker I.D.

Maybe some of the more expert folks around here could help me 'tentatively' I.D. this razor that I recently picked up. It's a very nice older 3/4" Full Hollow Sheffield in real good condition but the name of the maker is all gone except the last 3 letters which are: "NER".

I was thinking maybe 'Thomas Turner' Suffolk Works, but I don't recall ever seeing one of their razors that wasn't marked 'Thomas Turner & Co'. So it's a mystery to me at this point. Anyone here know of a manufacturer with the last three letters of the name ending in "NER"???? Any help would be appreciated

I would have to agree with bokerblade. The letter spacing would be about right too.
Cant really say for sure, but I realy like it. If ever it is up for grabs then please give me a shout. I love old Sheffields

Thanks Manah! I 'think' I can see what looks to be an "I" then a space and then the "NER" so that may narrow it down a tad. Perhaps a John or George Milner. I'll bet a powerful enough microscope could decipher this for me...LOL!

I would think that the spacing of the upper row would be a clue - the name overlaps 'Sheffield' by very nearly two whole characters, so it is reasonable to expect the first two characters of the name to precede Sheffield, so it looks like a long rather than a short name.

The roughness of the metal doesn't help. I have found that polishing some of the roughness out sometimes helps to make the name a bit clearer by taking out some of the random patterning of corrosion that is obliterating some of the characters.

It seems a bit counter-intuitive I know, and it wouldn't help with the start of the name, but it might make one or two more characters at the end stand out a bit more.

I would try and get a sheet of paper and pencil and place the paper down over the name then go over the name with the pencil ? that should pick up a lot.

Now that does seem like an idea which is worth a try. Why have I never thought of that?
