C-Mon Razor
Gentlemen,
Has anyone heard of a razor called C-Mon? If so, what do you experts know about it and what is its history? Thanks.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 346They're still around, though the name was sold to J. Michaels in the 40's. The early razors are very good, the C-Mon's they're selling now aren't as good but are still serviceable. I bought a C-Mon "Cadillac" from Appleton Barber Supply a year or so ago.

C-Mon was an abbreviation for Carl Monkhouse. He was a manufacturer of barber supplies in Germany. Peter J. Michaels was his distributor in the USA. If I have my facts straight he moved his company to Ellicottville NY either right before WWII or immediately after.
His vintage razors and his strops are some of the best I have used. The current production is not of the same standard of quality from what I've heard. I have no firsthand experience with the new stuff.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It looks like you can still buy the newer Cadillac model from the Appleton Barber Supply that MParker mentioned.

they sell c-mon razors at a barber supply shop near me but they sayed you had to be a certified barber to buy one so i could not get it.
very annoying. but in the end it worked out for the best because i got a better looking dovo that was properly honed so my first straight shave did not turn me away because of a dull blade. now that i have some skill straight shaving i need to go back there and see if i can get one now.

That is just plain ignorant. That place is destined to go out of business. It is obvious they have absolutely no business sense what-so-ever.
