Looks like a Spike to me.
I say spike too.
so spike isnt spanish :( ??
:) did you guys see the price??:overkill:
That's a good price if they are all in as good a shape as it looks like. Spanish points kind of look like a backwards C in the tip of the blade. I think the new Wackers have them, and if I'm not mistaken Dovo and Boker both field a Spanish point razor too.
I would call it a square point. To me,a spike has to stick out a bit past the end.JoeD had one recently on the SOTD thread.Hope he doesn't mind me putting it on here to illustrate this.
Wacker Spanish point from Shaving Shop:Kinda like a Barber's notch on steroids AND a bit of a spike.
what if i sand it to a spanish point?? would this affect the shaving or the quality of the blade?
or maybe the value of it?
MY GOD THAT WACKER IS BEAUTIFUL
GREAT price on some SWEET blades BTW.:D
It would probably take forever to SAND a spanish point into it.You could maybe grind it in if you're careful not to let the blade get hot at all(could ruin the temper),but IMHO it would be too difficult to make it look right, and I feel like a spanish point looks better on wider blades.
what about the brand ( Gold nugget ) i never heared of it before (since im fairly new). is it a good brand?
and the second one is a Top Flight (no idea what that is)
the first one,, crown&sword i know :)
I think a good way to explain Spanish point is: Inverted Round Point.
You might ask around the workplace forum to see if anyone can recommend a method or individual to help you get a Spanish point made. I know some guys do a lot of modification work on existing blades.
I agree with your definition, but if you notice that razor does stick out past the end. A square point is approximately 90 degrees and the spike sticks out a little bit past the end, as I understand it. What you linked looks too oblique to be a spike and is in French/Irish tip territory.
Okay, simple text guide here:
}---Barber's Notch (kind of)
)---Spanish
|---Square
]---Spike (only the bottom sticks out like that)
/---Irish/French.
Not perfect, but the best I can do on my keyboard

Thats what i ment,,,it sticks out at the end, that's what confused me and i couldnt place it as spanish or not....because i have a square one and it isnt the same tip :(
i also checked the wiki and in the descriptions of razors the square lacks the little tip at the end. the little tip really comes out though.
seriously i dont think its a big deal but its confusing :)
I understand. I have one I'm kind of on the fence about what to call it. Maybe I will call it a broken spike point.
no, just a square point, spike point has an angle to it pointing out
from a thread I made a few days ago
square on the top, spike on the bottom

For all you pros: The one I am on the fence about has the outward sloping tip like a spike point, but the point is rounded. It is no where near a french point, just the smallest angle you can visibly notice. Hence me calling it the broken spike point.
Other than that, any thoughts on it?
This was always the way I thought of it also, but maybe there are varying degrees of angle and once you reach a certain point, you're into French/Irish points.I went back and looked at the original photo, and it does come out slightly(before enlarging it looked like 90 degrees).I didn't call the photo I borrowed from JoeD a French because I thought a French always had a rounded top.
