Default Which razor to buy?? Input please

Christmas gift for my paw -in -law.

Ok I have been given the family job of picking the right "first" straight for him. I have $140 to work with and have found these 4 maybe 5 choices. He has expressed to me before of wanting a great "vintage" shaver. I would like to try to stick with NOS items unless someone has something that is in pristine condition and can guarrentee a very sharp edge. here are my choises are so far.

    Boker

    Classic Shaving

All of these are German I believe so all will be good shavers. However, I am looking for the best value with the best shave and even the best resale.

Have at it guys, give me your opinions.

Just a thought, but you might want to check out the Revisor site. They have some great stuff in the 5/8 and 6/8 widths that fall towards the $100-$150 range. And they are apparently great razors, though I didn't end up getting one.

I would go for the Boker or the Otto Busch out of that bunch.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Side note: I would go for the Boker of that bunch. I love the look of the Edelweiss.

    Default Which Razor to Buy?

    Gentlemen,

Of the razors you have mentioned I own only the Boker. It is a lovely razor and a great shaver. The Otto Bush cracked ice looks good, too. Since I own the Boker and love the way it shaves, I recommend that. The others might be good razors, too, but my experience is only with the Boker. Thus my recommendation.

    Regards,

    Obie

German blades are my favorites, Sheffield is close second. A 6/8 or 5/8 is great to start with. I guess my vote would then go for Classic Shaving...

I'm partial to this one. I bought a Henckles 8/8 Friodur NOS from John and it's a great shaver. He honed it himself and he stands by his work.

Yes cable I agree. I have a 7/8 Friodur. I love it, John takes care of his customers.

Have you got the Otto Busch?
