    Default Magnetic razor

I bought a razor yesterday that is magnetic. I was honing it and found that when I laid it on the bench it stuck to a piece of metal. It is quite magnetic. It this harmful to it? Will it take a fine edge? Should I try to de magnatize it?

it will take edge and you shouldn't have any problem with it. why you have concerns about healthy issue?

I've never seen anyone mention it, but I've wondered before if this would be an issue during honing. Seems like you wouldn't want all the little bits of metal coming off to stick to the edge, where they might increase the chances of causing tiny chips. On the other hand, maybe they're too small to matter.

Other than that, I can't imagine that being magnetized would affect anything.

Here is a thread about Carbo Magnetic razors. If Lynn says that they hone fine and the magnetic charge is not an issue, then it calms my nerves about the two magnetic razors I have. One is a Levering Razor Co. and the other is a Genco "Lincoln". I had not really wondered about the problem of honing before, but had wondered as to why some razors have such a charge.

I think it is interesting that in the 'old days' it was used as a marketing gimmick. I know of a few companies that labeled their blades magnetic. I bet there is some advertising out there from back then with some sort of claim that a magnetic blade would somehow be sharper of give a better shave. I've only got a couple so marked and they are like any other razor so far.

Mine shave no differently from my non-magnetized ones. Love that advert, blockhead, thanks. One piece of advice that I came across (from Glen if memory serves) is to never use wire wool cleaning them up, I learnt the hard way before I saw the advice. That stuff really can get everywhere.
