HEY! Anybody got any personal opinion (good, not good) on Art Of Shaving str8ts?

saw some today at Art of Shaving store. They were TI's.

What do you guys think of 'em?

I have heard/read they are pretty decent but NOT shave ready. I have been using AoS stuff for over a year before stumbling onto this site. So if all things remain equal there are probably beter options for cheaper.

The AoS razors are TIs. They're good razors but you can find comparable product for less money. To me, not a big deal if you like the razor. Bear in mind that you will have to get it honed before you can use it.

yeah, it was obvious they weren't shave ready. they were kinda pricey. i may get a shave at the place. looked like fun. btw, I would like to thank Toplin.

I think the products are overpriced myself, so I haven't owned a razor from the art.

You have the ability to thank someone's post via a button. Its a kind of recognition for the poster. I don't think it has any actual effect on the mechanics of the forum except affect people's perception of you.

I don't think you can toot your own horn via that system. IMO, it would be quite rude to do that in any case.

I've seen a number of AOS straight questions. The folks always tell the poster they're not shave ready.

I wonder if they're sold as shave ready? I am thinking of the person that knows nothing of straights walking into the store and being sold a straight... What is it they're told? Are the customers sugggested a place to send for honing? Who does the AOS barbers use for their honing?

I just cringe at the thought of a guy walking in, dropping a lot of cash on a straight fro AOS, going home without it being shave ready and well, gosh....I don't even want to know....

I like the AOS products. The only TI I currently own is the SRP edition. I've always heard TI has had QC issues, so I've stayed away. Has that changed?

I was highly recommended the AOS-TI blade by Maximillion here on the SRP boards, bottom line the AOS TI is the same exact New Production TI blade that you would purchase directly from TI but at a fraction of the cost. The AOS TI starts at 135.00 where as I think they are 150.00 maybe 160+ from TI directly. Not to mention if you register with AOS they'll send you an offer via e-mail for free shipping.

As far as them being "shave ready" here is the deal... the AOS TI's come with a "factory edge", can you shave with them? Of course you can, I used mine for 5 shaves when I recieved it this Christmas and it was excellent. I was told by AOS that with the factory edge if you used the razor everyday it should last around 2-3 months before you need it professionally honed. I just recently sent mine out to Max for a honing for the simple reason that I was very pleased with the shave it was giving me with a factory edge and the thought of it being even better got me very very excited. I should have the razor back hopefully by the end of the week and can't wait to get it back.

Currently I use a vintage henckels #16, a New Production Boker King Cutter, and the AOS TI in my rotation and the AOS is my favorite so far. I've been shaving for a month now, so am very new but as of now these are my thoughts and feelings.

I really like AOS's products, but I find that you can find the same quality stuff with a little leg work for less money; you can get a better strop for less money than they sell them and now I make my own preshave oil. I bought my first straight from AOS and am pleased with it, after I had it honed by Lynn. When you buy from the store, you get a complimentary SR shave with hot and cold towel treatment and a short lesson. When they shave you, they use a feather blade, not an actual strop-it-up straight razor. I found too, that while their tutorial was helpful, I had to just do it myself on my own face at home, and can now get a better shave than they gave me in the store in NYC. The people that work their know a lot about product, but not much about straights, because not many people request them. In fact, when I bought mine, they kind of raised an eyebrow and told me that the double edge was much easier and that I would like it better.
