The razors are :

Has anyone tried them, and how do they shave?
Thanks in advance.

I haven't heard of the Three Kings but I have heard good things about Carl Herder. OTOH, I just did a forum search for 'Herder' and came up with 4 pages of threads. One thing I found is more than one Herder. IOW there is also an F.W. Herder and maybe more. So dunno. If they are vintage and reasonably priced I've not found a vintage Solingen that wasn't a good to a great shaver.
Jimmy thanks, I should have searched before asking.
I had a Herder marked Quo Vadis-very nice 6/8 3 pin with green scales. It was an excellent shaver, sorry I sold it.
Geez, I must have old timer's disease ......:p I have an L. Herder & Sons with the Hen & Rooster logo on the reverse tang. I didn't think of it right off because of the H&R logo. Here are photos of the mark and pile sides. i also threw in some pocket knives with the same marque when I originally took the photos. Whether one Herder has any relationship to another is unknown to me but perhaps Carl is L. Herder's son ? Also found Carl here on this list of Solingen razor makers. Good page to bookmark. :tu
that razor looks great Jimmy.
Here is what I am talking about

I am talking to the seller about blade centering and such, and as soon as I get it I'll reveal the source so people that are interested can check out the rest of the razors.
Stefan, you are hesitating ???? Buy the thing before it is too late !!!!:gaah: Gorgeous vintage razor.
If it does have blade centering problems, do let me know.
;)
Grab it!! It is a very fine Solingen razor, and exactly like the one I used to have. Blade centering issues can often be remedied with judicious tapping on the pin opposite the scale the blade comes too close to.
Your Herder is a great looking and very collectable razor. Make sure you keep it well oiled - or even better use Renaissance wax on it. That kind of scale is much more prone to celluloid rot than most. The only ones I have seen that are worse are the same kind only green and not yellow. I did some research a few years back and it seems that the coloring added to the celuloid makes a big difference in its rate of breakdown. I have seen more of these marbled scales ruining good razors than any other kind.
Thanks guys,
I decided to go in another direction and get a NOS Dorko.
For those interested to check out the razors available, here is the link (I have posted about this seller before)
JAPANESE RAZOR
Is the Three Kings a Chinese knock-off? The word Solingen is misspelled as "Solingn" on the reseverse side of the tang.
I bought a Three Kings Deluxe razor about a month back from ZethLent. He sharpened it for me with his natural Japanese stones and it took a very sharp edge. The paperwork from the factory included said that it was made in Tokyo from Swedish steel so I do not know where the Solingn comes from. Mine is a 302 while the one on the site is a 1968. The heels are different on the two blades. My blade is 13/16 and 3/4 hollow, but it does sing some when stropping.
As always YMMV, but I think you should like it if you are interested. I paid about $50 less than that one is listed for though.
Carl Herder still makes knives today in solingen. Thats a very nice looking razor.
