Thanked: 2591Need opinion on two razors
Gents,
I have the opportunity to purchase one of a few razors mint NOS made in Solingen.
The razors are :
THE THREE KINGS DELUXE RAZOR EXTRA STEEL #1968
QUO VADIS CARL HERDER #98
Has anyone tried them, and how do they shave?
Thanks in advance.Stefan

I haven't heard of the Three Kings but I have heard good things about Carl Herder. OTOH, I just did a forum search for 'Herder' and came up with 4 pages of threads. One thing I found is more than one Herder. IOW there is also an F.W. Herder and maybe more. So dunno. If they are vintage and reasonably priced I've not found a vintage Solingen that wasn't a good to a great shaver.

I had a Herder marked Quo Vadis-very nice 6/8 3 pin with green scales. It was an excellent shaver, sorry I sold it.

Geez, I must have old timer's disease ...... I have an L. Herder & Sons with the Hen & Rooster logo on the reverse tang. I didn't think of it right off because of the H&R logo. Here are photos of the mark and pile sides. i also threw in some pocket knives with the same marque when I originally took the photos. Whether one Herder has any relationship to another is unknown to me but perhaps Carl is L. Herder's son ? Also found Carl here on this list of Solingen razor makers. Good page to bookmark.
