Suggestions For Heavy Razors

Hey, guys.

I'm starting to realize that my shaves go better with a heavier blade. I guess it's not so much the grind, but the weight of the blade.

My favorite razor that I own is a half-hollow 5/8 - 6/8 smiling blade that is just nice and solid. I wouldn't say it's super, super heavy, but it's definitely got some girth.

Any suggestions or places you can point me to find another nice old and restored heavy razor or two?

I'd keep an eye on the classifieds here... a lot of nice vintage blades show up all the time, some at very nice prices.

Or you could put in a WTB in the classifieds.

I've already placed a WTB ad in the classifieds, and I'm keeping my eyes peeled there on the "for sale" ads as well.

My 15/16 Wacker is pretty meaty, and so is my TI Spartacus for production razors. So if you're looking for a new razor, they are good heavy ones.

In terms of pure heft though, nothing beats my 7/8 W&B wedge, which I got from the classifieds here.

Yep, keep an eye out in the classifieds and hopefully you'll snag one..!

Stubear beat me to it. If you want a heavy razor, not many razors can beat a large W&B wedge. They weigh a ton.

A NOS Fridour although full hollow is pretty hefty and shaves awesome.

Another alternative is to order a custom from Robert Williams, Joe Chandler or Josh Earl among others. You tell them what you want and they can make a thick spine/grind in 6 or 7/8, 8 or 9/8.
