    Exclamation Friodur Help!

As I was cleaning off the razors scales after my shave today I noticed the friodur logo that was on the scales started to rub off.

Is this normal. Does this happen to anyone else. What may be causing this to happen.

I only use some baby oil on my blade so possibbly the oil caused the paint to lift?

    It happens.

When Henckel's was gearing down their razor line in the 1990s, they switched from stamping to etching. (And etching may not even be the right word for it.) This was done as a cost saving measure and is not very durable.

My little #50 1/2 is one such razor and its markings have rubbed off too.

It would seem that when Henckel's revived their razor line, they did so with that same cheap etching. I wonder if something like Rennaisance Wax over the etching would help preserve what's left.

I have a great fondness for JAH products but I have to admit that for the price they are not delivering what other makers do.

    regards,
    LG Roy

PS: Sorry Basil. I just reread your post and realized your were talking about the scales and not the tang. You still might try some wax on what's left.

Yeah the tang has that cheap stamp on it too unfortunately.

Where can I pick up this wax?

Rennisance wax, I'd assume. You may be able to find it on ebay or by googling, or sometimes antique malls have it.
