It's highly possible. I'm getting old and my eyes aren't what they used to be, even with magnification. I'll take another look if I get home at a reasonable time this evening.
I decided I would give it a few shaves before any restoration work so I took it to a hone last night. No tape and I got it to an edge in about 20 minutes. It's not where I would call the bevel set yet but it's close. I wanted to do more but ran out of time. I used a 600 grit Chosera w/ slurry and then w/o slurry. I'll put a few more minutes on this hone some time in the near future and then move up to a 2000 Chosera. Can't wait to take this bad boy for a spin!
I came up empty trying to identify your huge new whacker too. Looks awesome and I hope it is a great shaver. Just a thought; is it possible that it started life as a wedge, and was even more massive? Lots of pre 1850 wedges were reground to the new fangled hollow look, after it became popular. Can you imagine that blade as a full wedge?
Sorry to disappoint you but what you have is not a razor at all. It's a damn machette!!
Croaker, It's almost a full wedge now. I'll try and post a pic in the near future of after/while honing to show the hone wear. Anything is possible and it may have been a full wedge at one time.
Here are some crappy pics showing the hone wear and a blade profile. Sorry about the pic quality, Jr isn't here and it's really not much to show. I have about an hour in on honing over the past three days. Just can't seem to find a good chunk of time to put into honing it yet. I have to give it a good look at later and see if the bevel needs more work, maybe another 15 minutes or so, the n just polishing. Right no wit's off the 2k hone.
