Hello everyone, I have a Puma 89 Special that I bought 15-18 years ago and was wondering what she's worth.
I'm not planning on selling it since it was the first straight razor I learned to shave with. Just wonder what it's worth.

Ummm, not worth much really. Why don't you send it to me and just forget it ever existed.
jk jk, I've been trying to aquire a puma recently. Those have been selling well on ebay. I have yet to win one :( That is a beautiful razor you have.
This forum does not do valuation assessments.
There is a tendency of first time posters to join, ask what their razor is worth, and then to disappear. I will hope that you are an exception and that you will take the time to explore what this site has to offer.

As for exploring the site, I have, and there seems to be alot of good info.
As for posting a lot, that just not me. If I can answer a question, I happily will. If I have a question, I will ask. Other then that, I use the search function most of the time.

The Puma looks quite nice, but yeah we don't really do appraisals here.

I'm not looking for a appraisal. Just a rough idea (ie: 50,75,100,ect.) . Since I'm not looking to buy or sale, I don't really have a idea of the value.
Can either of you point me in a direction, where I can get an idea of the value.
Even rough guesses are not done ;) Sorry friend.

And incidentally the same razor is worth different amount to different people. For example I've seen razors in the classifieds sell for anything from 1/3 or 3x of what I think they are worth. gugi - I did search ebay and such, but to be honest the price varies widely and each razor listed is a different model. If there was a handful of the same model I could get an idea of the value but that just not the case but I to apreciate you taking the time of explain the site's side.

See, there really isn't a good answer to this question.
About a month ago I bid for a friend on ebay on a razor like yours, except that it was in like new condition. Somebody else bid few cents more so I didn't win it, but had my friend not seen it and I not have bid the same person would've gotten the same razor for 30% less because the bidder below me had 30% lower bid.
So it would appear any of these numbers do not reflect any inherent value in the razor.
I have bought and sold many razors that looked better and shaved significantly better than current production razors that sell by the thousands for twice as much. So depends how you measure value you can come up with vastly different numbers.
And so it's better not to create contention arguing over such things. It is a lot more pleasant and productive to talk about the razors themselves and, this being primarily a shaving forum, how they shave.
It's a hard one to value, because so many things need to be taken into account. Allowing for the age, the use, random fluctuations in the market, stochastic volatility, exchange rates, the sovereign debt issue, I'd say it was worth somewhere between one dollar and 3.64 bazillion dollars.

I'm closing this thread. The OP should know by now that we do not appraise razors and where to go for an answer. At this point it is beating a dead horse and I see no value in keeping it open. If someone want to convince me top re-open the thread drop me a PM.
