Those razors, has anyone shaved, or honed them yet???
Never heard of them. Why dont ya buy one and send it to me. ;)
I have two on the way here to be honed, but had never even heard hide nor hair of them before Kelly...
Old Yahoo group thread says TI made
Yahoo! Groups
Beat me to it, but when this was a yahoo forum some years back, I picked up a TI from them. (Price was ALOT less back then.) Recently had it honed by Lynn and IMO, it's a wonderful blade.
hey i thought they went bankrupt to make the way for bailing out everybody else :p
as far as i know they are just TI. at one point their prices were a bit outdated but i think they've corrected that.
^^^
duh should've read the rest of the posts - you already found previous reference about them
From the description:
Impressive...the boiling point of lead is 3180 °FQuote:
After being hand forged, each blade is plunged into boiling lead
From the Lehman's website:
I think TI claims "lead hardening", and I haven't seen any other maker that does.Quote:
After being hand forged, each blade is plunged into boiling lead, then quenched in water and sharpened. Blades stay sharp longer and will last a lifetime. Made in France.
Now, "boiling lead" tells me that somebody doesn't know anything about metallurgy. "Melted lead" I could believe.
Charles
Yes, Lead tempering/hardening is a TI thing. They were the only
place with the permits to do it according to some literature a couple
of years back. And yes molten not boiling...
Steel in molten lead is not in contact with air, effectively avoiding decarburization.
Google finds lots of modern references to the use of lead.
Ivan beat me to it..! :D
Clearly Dick Fuld has moved on from banking into razor forging...
I've not heard the name but I'm interested to hear what you think of them Glen!
lehmans is a company that sells non electric goods, they are located in kidron ohio, many of their patrons are the ohio amish. i have wondered about their razors, cant wait to read what glen comes up with.
I have been to this most interesting Amish Hardware Store and it is huge. They have a long standing relationship with TI that was threatened at one point for selling TI razors too cheaply. I am also curious to see what Glen comes up with. Looks like it could be the TI Evide or Super Gnome models. Their version of the Best Quality???
Have fun,
Lynn
This is a quick photo of the razor I purchased from Lehmans several years ago. The current description and categories Lehmans uses on their site seems familiar, but I believe they used the TI name back then.
I read that lead hardening thing and thought about TI too. Those look like a basic model TI but not at lower end prices!
At this point, I'm interested in this little baby.
Although getting a TI razor for that price (even though it isn't fancy looking) would be wonderful.
Very interesting:
Thiers-Issard's Lead Hardening Process is unique in all of Europe and quite possibly worldwide. Each forged razor blade is immersed in molten lead at a temperature of 800 degrees centigrade. This immersion effectuates an abrupt and uniform heating to the precise temperature necessary to produce maximum hardness. This process is followed with annealing at 300 degrees centigrade to impart sufficient flexibility and eliminate brittleness.
Due to the possible health risks workers can experience by exposure to the lead used in this traditional hardening process French law has prohibited its use. Since Thiers-Issard has been using this process for so long and over the years have proven their ability to do so safely, they have been granted a special dispensation from the government and are the only manufacturer in France to be allowed to continue using this time honored method of hardening. This practice alone separates their razors from all others currently available.
Hi, I am Lehman's E-commerce director. I found this fascinating forum and I have some input on markevens post regarding the nose hair trimmer. This is a handy little device that works very very well. I use mine about once a week to keep the weeds trimmed in my nose. I really like this thing it is easy to use and small enough to get lost with the other grooming stuff.
I will tell you however that I recently took this to Chicago on a trip. I got stopped in the airport leaving Chicago because of the device. The TSA thought it looked suspicious. Fortunately all ended with a laugh from all of us. When they found it in the luggage they were certainly curious. They also found Lehman's :)
Admittedly I do not know much at all about our line of straight razors, however I am very happy to forward any questions or product suggestions to the right people..
Thanks Greg, it is nice to see a company now-a-days take the time to even post in our little corner of the world...
The two razors are in route here now, I am re-assured now that they seem to be made by Theirs Issard since it is a reputable straight razor company...
Good to see a company still offering these...
Glenn, I buy my shaving soaps and supplies from them, you should get their catalog. It's always been a favorite place to go. Yes they are TI's, they also have Colonel Conk/Solingen Razors, I had a few in my hands checking them out just a few weeks back.
Aaron
gssixgun,
your little corner of the world is more important than you know. We appreciate the efforts to put information (Lehman's or not) on the web. I personally look for information from folks that use products. I do hope you enjoy those Razors, I wish I had the guts to use these razors myself. As it is in this hectic world the enjoyment of a solid shave is rare. For me, too often, it is an attitude of "get it done and move on". I used my grandfathers safety razor (apparently not very safely) a few times with disastrous results. Fortunately, no one was hurt and I am still vertical. I will pull it out from time to time just to practice and enjoy.
Thank you for the postings and keep em coming.
BTW, please spread the word about any positives or negatives you may have regarding the razors on the web site. I would love to get some feed back from this forum. Please post a review on the product page when you have some feedback. ty.
Anything I can do, please let me know.
Thanks 1971wedge...
Free catalogs these days (FYI) http://www.lehmans.com/catalog
I wondered if that was still true after seeing this Dovo video at 1:19?
YouTube - Making DOVO Straight Razors
Seems about right that they would be legit TI's at that price. On par with the AOS TI's last I checked.
Good eyes...
I cannot tell if they dip the razor in molten salt or molten lead
in the video. However it may not mater.
This may be interesting to read.
http://www.uddeholm.com/files/heattreatment-english.pdf
Both molten lead and molten salt can be used
but the temp and timing will differ.
In some ways this is like discussions on the making
of french frys. In the end the professionals have an
advantage with larger and more powerful fryers and
better temp control. Then there are discussions about
the best fat to fry in.....

Exactly the models that showed up, straight forward TI razors.. In and on the Naniwas, took a sweet edge and done :D
Nice to know there is another source for TI razors, and BTW I got my Catalog TY Greg all kinds of cool stuff in there...
It seems I need to get my eyes checked. I never noticed this thread before, and I never noticed razors in the Lehman's catalog before.
Thanks for putting the time and money into testing one Glen.
LehmansGreg: If you can talk to the copy writers for the website, they'd probably do well to state that the razors are made by TI, as long as there is nothing preventing them from doing so.
As I recall on the old yahoo SR forum, several of the members back then picked up these razors as they were selling for less than Dovo's. Reviews were pretty good as well. Frankly, I surprised no one else here seems to recall that, or perhaps they are like me and tend to lurk on this site rather than post... Anyway, everything old is new again and I'm glad the dust has been blown off of Lehmans in regards to the razors they sell.
The link to the razors/clippers/scissors is hard to spot, but it's there up the top, once you click on the personal grooming tab.
I've been eyeing off quite a few items on that site. As I can afford to, I will be buying a few things from them.
Mick
I remember this and have commented on it several times. Another TI vendor took great offense to this and TI made them raise their prices. They ran out pretty quick before the increase.........lol. A nice thing is that it doesn't look like they are sucked into having to carry all the TI accessories that the other vendors are required to carry when selling TI's.
Have fun,
Lynn
Anyone knows what hone is in the Dovo video? Of course the finisher one, not the grinder :)
So just out of curiosity has any one figured out what model they are selling?
Thank you for the suggestion, it has been forwarded to the copy writer. With such a diverse line of products it is very difficult to know those types of things. Feel free to bring these things to our attention through the info@lehmans.com email addy.
ty
So...does this mean the prices are getting raised now ? :ziplip:
I've done a fair amount of shopping from them.Love their stuff. Thanks to them.I am hopeful to live off the grid someday or at least as much as possible.Don't want to give up my SRP after all.

I thoroughly enjoy the Lehman's catalog and website. Their products really appeal to me. Now that I know they sell TI razor, I may just have to get one.
After I save up a bit, of course.
I like the look of their Trac II handle, too.
