That's a really tough one.
It depends on several factors.
All my razors delivers great shaves, but here goes:
Filarmonica EPBD #14
Tim Zowada 7/8 Damascus Custom
C-Mon Filarmonica 8/8

I adore my Filly DT 13--I certainly go for it most often, as it provides an incredible shave no matter what length my beard is. And to think I almost sold it on a whim!! So glad that I didn't let it go!
In second place are a couple of my customs...
I can not say that one is actually the best, so here are my top 3
1. Robert Williams
2. Dovo No. 55
3. Dovo Best Class
Pabster
I run it under hot water while I'm stropping, it gets almost to hot to hold :) and I do get a good lather out of it. I don't have any "Real" shave mugs, bowls or what not. So I use what I have that might work, for a while I was using an old one cup measure :p
Like everybody else, this is a tough call. I have two that give shaves like a hot knife through butter, no pull or drag.
Kropp 6/8 round point
Boker King Cutter 11/16 round point.
Best "standard" straight is my Henckels Friodur 7/8" round point honed on a coticule and stropped on canvas and leather.
Current favorite and providing a hassle free, ridiculously close shave (if and only if used at a super flat angle, with the blade holder touching the skin) is a Feather Artist Club DX, with Professional Super blades. I must admit I love it so much I'll probably sell off my collection of razors and hones except for a favorite or two.
Right now this W&B near wedge is my best shaver. Followed closely by this Juste Judicato 1/4 hollow.
easy answer for me Joseph Rodgers near wedge when i decided to upgrade my no name swedish it took eight razors to find and it's even better than my little filarmonica but that came shave ready and rough so i'll update after i put it over the arkansas
Attachment 53680
now i'll have to sell or swap some razors to get another one
I seasoned the heck out of it and I have not had a single spot of rust pop up. After the shave I wash with very hot water, towel dry and set outside the bathroom. I have noticed that the seasoning may be getting thin so I'll season it again soon, it's been about 6 months sence it was last done.
Hands down, this interesting grind I bought a couple weeks ago from Shooter74743 is the best shaver I've got. Beats out a Greaves and Sons wedge, a new Dovo stainless, and my second-best, a Griffon Carbo-Magnetic full hollow.
For me it's a tie between one of my Zowadas and a Puma Gold.
For me, it's this Luer quarter hollow. A simply fantastic shaver. I have two identical razors that are my "go to" shavers. I also have a round point full hollow Luer. Funny thing is, I've never seen any others than these three.

My Puma High Class is my best shaver
My dubl duck satinedge.
Clean the rust off, give it a liberal rub over with olive oil and bake it in the oven for an hour or so at around 180 cel. Repeat again, and then only as deemed necessary. When they are used for cooking the seasoning is added to each time. That's my method anyway.

My best shaver is my Fili 14 I got from Max... I swear the whiskers leap off my face in pure fear just before the blade actually gets to them! Haha :rofl2:
In a close second would be my Juan Vollmer Palmera 14. :)
Precisely,this is the best answer
My fave is a Bell 6/8 with a little bit of a smile on the spine and edge. Every week I can't wait to get to this one in the rotation ^_^
very smooth and forgiving shave
I was thinking about this the other day. I own over A LOT of razors and have shaved with almost every type, brand, and size I can think of...and my favorite two are Shumates. (call me crazy) One is 5/8 and one 6/8. They keep a good edge, hone easily, and are just terrific shavers. They are my "go to" razors. A close second but a different genre is my 8/8 Jos. Rodgers.
As with any cast iron vessel, scrub it clean Pre heat your oven to at least 350F Some do this at 400F and it works just the same.
Coat the vessel with cooking oil, wipe off excess, place in the hot oven for at least 1 hour. I do this while baking something so I'm not just wasting much of the heat/energy.
Leave in the oven till cool, some bigger pieces I bake for a couple hours and leave over night.
I don't know how harsh shave soap is but soaps do eatch away the seasoning, it's what they do :p , so seasoning needs to happed every now and then. If you start seeing that orange rust, clean and reseason...
Same here - my Filly DT 14 with my Palmera running in a very close second. The grind, size, metal characteristics, ect. on them have been the best match for my beard (course) and skin (slightly sensitive) that I've found yet.
My 8/8 Revisor Extra comes in third.
I used to have a little 5/8 J.A. Hellberg that would've held third place if only it weren't so small - it was an absolute pleasure to hone and shave with but I prefer larger blades (If I could find a 13/16 or larger piece of Swedish steel for a semi-reasonable price I'd scoop it up in a heart beat; I have no doubt it'd give the Filly and Palmera a serious run for their money...)
My top 3 shavers are PUMA - REVISOR - WHACKER
Once i learned how to sharpen and keep em sharp, I have several "best" shavers. I was shaving for a number of months before i had a real "shave ready" razor.
I just got a piper exeter back from Max that is extra special to me. gave me a superior shave on the first try (see photo in new acquisition forum).
otherwise i have sheffield steel and German steel razors of several makes that are great shavers.. I've not had one yet that if i put the time in would not shave great. Having the correct edge is the key for me..so i have a couple dozen favorites right now. some are really inexpensive old american made steel razors. One special one is "Royal Blue" a 5/8 that my good friend Jerry's grandpa used up into the 60's. I do like the feel of the heavier style blades though. If i had to use only one, i'd keep my Joseph Rodgers & sons 8/8 it really has some weight to it. (though I'd rather keep em all!)
Kirk
The top three are Gottlieb Hammesfahr ,Henkels Frieidor, and the Boker King Cutter, until I use something else I guess....
Top 3 Shavers
C.V. Haljestrand 5/8" Extra Hollow Ground
Boker Red Injun #102
Imperial 5/8" Extra Hollow Ground
I wouldn't want to single out any one razor from mine, but I have had a real superstar pass through my hands just lately for a clean up and rescale. Grizzley1 might be pleased to hear that she's another Hammesfahr, and I can't remember using a better razor. If I can sort out my photo hosting difficulties, there will be a few pics appearing in Custom Builts and Restorations very soon.
edit: it's up now.
I really like (all) my Genco razors but my favorite would be a Model 89. It's a great shaver. Honestly, Hart, Sheffield, Solingen, American, French and Swede, I like them all. I just reach for the Genco more often.
Mine would be a dead heat between my Boker Red Injun 102 and my Texas Shumate. Both of these razors seem just continually scary sharp and consistently produce BBS shaves without much effort at all. On the safety razors side, dead heat between My 1908 Gillette Single Ring Old Style and 1910 Gem Lather Catcher.
I change my answer to a NOS Revisor...smooth shaver.
6/8 Ern Ator is my favorite, that thing can hone up like no other, I swear.
I have this Henckels #38......I hate to play favorites, but..THAT!:)
I have yet to acquire the skills to wield a straight razor consistently. So currently my best shaver is a GEM 1912 with pella blades.
