I also have two Torreys, one 1/4 hollow Berbers notch and one faux frame back. They are wonderful shavers and seem to hold an edge very well.
I agree with a previous post that said it was very hard steel. I have been straight shaving about 2 years, I own about 15 different razors and this is by far the hardest dad-gummed razor to hone. Seems like it took forever to get it to the point I wanted. But if you finally get it honed right, it is a great quality shaver.
I know there are exceptions to what I am about to say, but IMHO, it is pretty hared to find a vintage razor that is a piece of junk from the manufacturer.
I'm thinking of the razor shaped objects like a Krieger or Zeepk. I am not sure that back in the vintage days these great manufacturers would have put such razors on the market, and if some did, I think you'd be hard pressed to find one of them. YMMV.
